  1. Hi, I'm not interested in slagging off Aldridge Trimming here I just want to know if anyone else has bought replacement carpets from them. I bought a carpet set including the additional sill carpets and it seems the sill carpets are too short, by about 8 inches. I contaqcted them and they tell me they should be fitted from the rear to the front and the shortfall will be hidden by the 'A' pillar vinyl piece. This COUILD be the case on the passenger side (RHD) but certainly NOT on the passenger side. At the moment they seem to be gearing up to refuse to resupply pieces of the correct length so I thought I'd ask here. Also some of the other pieces arrived without edging (as shown in their pictures) and some which were NOT the correct profile. What are your thoughts?
  2. My 1966 4.2 ltr MK 10 is starting to look a little tatty around the wheel arches, does anyone know if it is possible to get repair panels? I can only find complete wings on Fleabay and it'd be expensive to cut up a wing just for the arches. I'm also looking for a reputable garage to carry out the work, I can do mechanical work but my body work isn't up to the quality I'd like. I live in France to if anyone has experience of a French bodyshop that'd be great but I would be willing to return to the UK to get the work done. Many thanks.
  3. Hi, I too am having fueling problems, more of that later. I have a saved search on ebay which has returned the following: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JAGUAR-2-SU-HD8-CARBURETOR-PARTS-E-TYPE-MK10-ETC/282767466155?hash=item41d6411eab:g:1twAAOSwovNaLWck https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/382307843339?ul_noapp=true No idea if these have the part)s) you're looking for. My Problem(s), maybe you can help. 1966 4.2 ltr MK10 3 HD8 carbs. 1 - I can't get the tick over to sit at 600rpm. It seems to work but when I start it the next day it will only ide at about 250rpm 2 - I've fitted new needles but, using colourtune, I can't get a decent blue flame no matter how weak I make the mixture. Lifting the piston with the lifting pin indicates the mixture is correct. 3 - Carb 1, with the auxilary starting carb, backfires occasionally and blows petrol back through the auxillary carb. 4 - I have a small oil leak at the front crank oil seal, do you know if this is easy to change or do I have to remove the sump? Hope you can help and hope I helped you. Neil.
  4. Just a quickie. How easy/difficult is it to change the front oil seal on the 1966 4.2ltr MK10 engine? I've seen on various exploded diagrams that it fits 1/2 in the block and 1/2 in the sump giving the impression it needs to be changed with the sump off. Is it possible to just pry the old one out and press the new one in? Any help greatfully received.
  5. Has anyone installed a CSI electronic distributor in their 4.2 ltr XK engine? I've just done this and I'm looking for reccomendation on the best ignition curve to use. My plan is to start with curve No. 1 and change to 2, 3, etc. and see which is the best for me. Any suggestions?
  6. Thanks to all for replies. I've now moved on from the carb issue. I bought new needles which helped slightly....changed the air filter which helped slightly... but they're still rich. I've now fitted a CSI distributor which has helped the performance. Revving still prodicewd black smoke so I'm now cleaning the plugs and going for a run after weakening the carbs a little. However, it's looking like rebuilt carbs are on the cards.
  7. Well I've fiddled again and sorted the badly adjusted carbs (I think it was my fault all along), the car now runs much better although I'd still prefer the idle speed to be a bit more than the 500rpm in the manual. I now need to run the car for a while and inspect the plugs intermittantly to check the colour and adjust the mixture accordingly. I think I also have a problem with the electric choke as it blows back occasionally (the timing is as per the manual), perhaps a manual conversion? Thanks for everyones comments, they helped and made me feel confidant enough to tackle the carbs. Neil.
  8. Thanks for your thoughts, I plan to remove the problem carbs and see what's causing the jet to stick. I have heard that these carbs are prone to sticking if you don't use a lead free additive and I don't know what's been used previously. I'm used to setting up twin carbs on my MGB & Alpine and, I hope, 3 carbs is only 30% more complex. Now the car won't idle or tick over at all so I need to do something.
  9. I have a 1966 MK 10 which I only bought recently so I'm no expert with these cars. It's running rich, I've figured out how one is supposed to adjust the mixture (wind out the adjusting screw until the jet is level with the 'bridge' in the carb body and then wind it in 2 1/2 turn to get to the starting point), however the mechanism for raising and lowering the jet only works on the front carb. Obviously I need to remove the jet unit housing to see what the problem is. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what problem(s) I might find inside? I'm just going round in circles at the moment and seem to be making things worse as now it won't even idle. Thanks in advance Neil.
  10. Bonjour a tous, I've started to seriously look for my first Jaguar so any advice would be welcome. I have lived in the Drome France (dept. 26) for 10 years so I've started my search in France and found there are a surprising number of the cars I like (420, 420 G and XJ6). Mileages seem generally lower than in the U.K. but I really don't have a clue what to look for other than general old car problems (I have an MGB GT, Sunbeam Alpine and Austin 1100) so any pointers to weak spots on these cars would be useful. To be honest these cars scare me a bit so I'm looking for a car to drive and maintain but I don't mind getting my hands dirty. I've found 2 cars on ebay I like the look of: 1 - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JAGUAR-SERIES-3-CABRIOLET-CONVERSION-BY-CABRIOLET-INTERNATIONAL-1985/172821211527?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649 but I don't know if this would be a sensible buy. 2 - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LHD-1963-Jaguar-Mk-X-3-8-litre/202012380878?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649 Any thoughts? I'm going to check out the cars for sale section now.
