Hi, I am hoping someone can help me with an annoying problem with my S Type. Every now and then when I switch on the ignition I hear 3 beeps and then a Parkbrake Fault appears and the car will not move. To "overcome" the problem of not being able to move, I have increased the revs and been able to drive off. This then changes the warning message to Cannot Apply Parkbrake. I have been told I can continue driving the car, just ensuring it is in Park before switching off.
The garage are investigating the cause, but as yet it is not resolved. They have been able to reset something (ECU?) so that the message disappears and the Parkbrake works normally for a while, before the problem reoccurs.
i am currently trying to remove the Cannot Apply Parkbrake message myself and have seen that disconnecting and reconnecting the battery might be an option, but am reluctant to try that as I have concerns about resetting some of the other aspects (Ie I am not sure I have the means to reset the radio). I have tried the Parkbrake Recalibration process by removing the relevant fuses in the boot compartment, but following the process I do not get any change in the message to suggest that the Parkbrake is recalibrating when I press the foot brake 5 times as advised.
Any simple ideas I could try to recalibrate the Parkbrake, what the root cause of the problem may be, and what I can do differently if it happens again?
