  1. When I say problem I mean I can force the battery warning light on. If I switch on front and rear heater with demisting the light pops up. Rev just above idle and it goes out. Occasionally it stays on until I switch of an on again. All other times the car is fine, charges battery and it holds well enough. Local garage is going to fit a new alternator for £400. The car has been doing this since Oct and hasn't got any worse. Am I wasting my money? Is the ECU simply doing its job? Anyone else has this on their x type? Thanks muchly Matt H
  2. Having a bit of a problem with my 2.5 se. Already wasted £140 on a battery I didn't need (on advice). Battery warning light comes on when windscreen is defrosted (basically a heavy load mostly when stationary). Occasionally comes on and off with revs. The alt. Is probably as old as the car (2006) but its only done 29000 miles..I'm thinking I might try the battery cables next. Is this an easy DiY job? I think getting proper oe cables may be tricky? Any advise welcome. Matt
  3. Thank you Peter. I set the charger back onto the battery this morning and it went "green" within 10 minutes or so. Therefore I have deduced the drain may be minimal (if at all). I will continue to monitor. The car has covered very few miles since 2014 ( I have all MOT's) The battery has a sticker suggesting Oct 2016. I still have a nagging feeling there is something not right. I love the car so much I will most probably employ an auto electrician. One thing I am certain of is the reversing sensors don't work. I was getting the fault Buzz. I managed to get another module for £20 on ebay. This didn't cure the problem so I appear to have wasted my money with this gamble. I have now taken the module off and left the wires loose in the boot.
  4. Well Halfords Basildon were very honest I'm pleased to say. No hard sell. They checked my battery and alternator . No problems. Battery needed recharging. I did this today. Just back from a 40 mile run at 60-70 mph. No light. Runs beautifully. The battery light still comes on however? But only when I put on the front windscreen heater and engine is idle. If I nudge the revs to 1000 it goes off? I recently left the car standing for 4 days and it started first time. Am I worried unnecessarily? At the end of the day its nearly 12 years old.
  5. Hi everyone. Just purchased a lovely x type 2.5 SE. I've spend the weekend refining the interior and have a bit of paintwork booked in for Wed. The car will then be immaculate. Lovely car...but a problem. Intermittent red battery light. I've just noticed it comes on when I put on the windscreen heater/ fans. Disappears when switched off. Starts and drives lovely. It's only done 30000 miles with service history. I'm getting the battery checked first (halfords free winter check 😀) Cheers Matt
