My 2012 3.0L diesel XFs portfolio is at the end of its lease so after three trouble free years this wonderful car is being returned and i have no more use for the Jaguar GEN 2.1 HDD Map update Europe 2015 (includes the UK) USB I bought three years ago Although it cost me just a little short of several £Million I'm happy to give it away - so if you want it and dont mind being a few years out of date let me know and i'll post it

Hi Peter Interesting historical interpretation. GM/Buick did supply a V8 engine to RR motors. They never supplied a chassis or built cars for them so no wonder no one would ever describe a Buick as a Rolls Royce. On the other hand the new "baby" Jag conceived under Ford ownership was based on an existing platform, namely the Mondeo (Ford CD132 platform) Land Rover used it on the Freelander. I didn't know Ford rebadged a Mondeo Ghia as a Jaguar, was that for the US market? I'm not trying to denigrate the Xtype but the fact is it was based upon a Modeo chassis and thats no bad thing at all. The problem was they didn't stop there they also raided the parts bin using much of same switch gear. Potential jag owners didn't like that so the car ended up being far from a winner you suggest, the fact is it never sold in anything like the numbers Ford needed. Ford needed to sell 50,000 a year but, although it was Jaguars most successful car, it actually sold half that. Consequently Jaguar and Land Rover where sold as a unit to TATA when finances got a bit tight in-spite of the huge sums pumped into JLR. I remember the X-type launch, it was supposed to be an affordable and economic Jag. Initially you could only buy it as a gas guzzling V6 petrol with four wheel drive. It missed the intended economy conscious market by quite some way. Enjoy the car just for its, and your, own sake. Just don't reinterpret history to justify an opinion. You say the "Halewood workers wanted to build a Jag designed by Jaguar" Do you honestly think Ford gave a stuff what the workers wanted in a small plant in NW England. Hi Peter Couldn't agree more. I think Ford make a wonderful range of good value cars, from Escorts to Mustangs. Personally i don't think theres an ugly one in the range. The R&D money poured into JLR undoubtedly prevented the brands disappearing. I feel like i may have touched a nerve and i don't know why or which one. I never intended to so sorry if i said something to offend. Comparing a Buick to a Rolls Royce is a little odd? Maybe its the old X-type is a Mondeo with wood complaint? The Mondeo had a splendid chassis and was a logical, cost effective choice on which to base the new, at the time, baby Jag. A pity it wasn't the success they needed it to be. I enjoy my Jaaaag and if some are a touch jealous then fine, I don't get it, i'll just say more fool them, but when JLR do something i do or don't like i'll say so.

Thats exactly what i have. I get low to mid 30's doing mostly short journeys but on a motorway i easily add 10 MPG to that. I purchased the 275 "S" as I'm not to fussed about MPG. Its quick and if you press the right buttons, very responsive. It handles extremely well but the large wheels make the ride a little harsh but not enough to be uncomfortable. I like its looks and appreciate its a real jag not a rebadged Ford. The only downside is the slowish response when first started, the show off air vents and gear selector is wow initially but soon wears off, it can take 5 seconds or more for the rear camera to come on, not a train smash but is a little irritating. The satnav is adequate and, if you go the official route, horrendously expensive to update. Some of the plastics are not up to Audi or Merc standard. Thats about it for cons the pros far out weigh them. Its a car that feels special and with the more powerful engine is a lot of fun.

I may have a solution for you. I had the same problem where it didn't seem to matter what USB stick i used i could never play my MP3's in the Jaaag, I could if i copied them to a CD/DVD. I was doing a bit of messing with format conversion using a cheap little programme called switch audio file converter http://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html by chance I told it to convert from Amazon MP3 on my PC to MP3 on a USB and bingo problem solved Hope that helps

Arthur Daily (Minder) hasn't helped the image either, mind you my Jaaaag takes so long to slide stuff about, enable the various in car entertainment facilities that it can take over five seconds for the rear view camera to come on before its ready to move. That must mean it can no longer qualify to be a bank robbers quick get away car. Hey, leave Mr Clarkson out of this, his take the p**s Jag remarks are funny and surprisingly accurate - I'm always leaving my wallet at home!

I have an 2012 XFs portfolio with a very nice B&W sound system that can connect and play content from iPhone, USB, play CD/DVD's, and provides a really good DAB radio. Anyway, from day one I could never get the USB stick interface option to work, even if the same USB drive could be read by everything else in the whole world!!!!. All I would see is a list of the indexed files but from then on a very unhelpful help screen telling me the files were not accessible or something along those lines. I could copy/burn the same music tracks to CD/DVD and everything worked fine. It was driving me nuts, i tried different manufacturers drives, various formatting options, using folders or not as well as a variety of drive capacities. Nothing seemed to work and then one day i was messing about on my PC converting to and from different music formats and downloaded a product called Switch plus to my iMAC. As an after thought i tried copying an existing MP3 album to a new USB drive via this Switch app but running the convert to MP3 as this wold take the original MP3 files and apply it's own MP3 conversion. Well knock me down with a feather, it worked? What seems to happen is that the syncing or copying process used when downloading MP3 music appears to set a flag that the Jag's decoder doesn't like. I use Amazon music downloads so they're number one suspect but it could be iTunes or Sonos or even spotify doing something when these programmes search and catalogue the music found on my PC or network. So there you are folks, i know a number of people have reported problems, a simple solution is download Switch and copy all files to USB through its conversion process. My XF is a 12 plate and uses the USB stick. I suspect JLR are the same as all of the manufacturers (tell me if not) in that the price charged to keep up to date is outrageous and, quite frankly, leaves a bad taste. Compare this customer rip off (theft) to to my old Garmin sat nav that is not only better and more comprehensive but cost £70 for lifetime updates. If this is JLR's idea of looking after "valued" customers? It reminds me of how the record and movie business endlessly complained, when they tried to restrict availability and charged top dollar for their product, when people stole it via internet download sites. What goes around comes around so stop alienating customers and provide a better service. End of rant! P.S. I did buy the USB update (even comes via snail mail, couldn't even download it) when i was flush with new owner pride and think the DRM prevents it being passed on, if not you are welcome to have it
