  1. Hi guys, As Peter has said there are many differences in spec. But no, it's not just the power. the 3.0d XF has less power than the S. But it's the word 'portfolio' that's making a difference. This is the highest spec you can get and leaves only a couple of available options - such as ali pedal covers, black suede headlining, those kind of things. I've got a 2014 (64) XFS Portfolio and I !Removed! love it.
  2. Where in Yorkshire are you? Hatfields in Wakefield are the nuts, go and see those guys. And gals. Without knowing the construction of the calipers, if they were stripped cleaned and rebuilt I'd be asking if they've been cleaned with something that's great for brake dust but not so great for rubber, and whether that's contributed to the seals.
  3. I know expression automotive in Shipley (West Yorkshire) would do this for you and wrap it in whatever you like but it's a bit out of your way!
  4. That seems to be the case but I absolutely don't believe it. Give me a few days, I'll let you know.
  5. Hi there, Unfortunately I'm not sure it will be as easy as you're expecting. I'm still getting to know Jag as a new owner myself, but from retro fitting things on other cars, you'll need to work out how much of the loom you need, aquire that and fit it, and then have a dealer or someone with relevant software enable it in the ecu. Not sure which module it's part of. It might be as simple as getting power to it though, can you see how many wires should be connected to it? If there's only two you might be lucky, if there are more then it's probably part of the CANBUS. Mic
  6. So I got the news today. I'm in two minds. In one sense I'm really glad that they've found a tangible reason it's got a fault which means I won't stick with an intermittent fault going in and out of the dealer. On the other hand, the fault is a molten cable at the battery end of the cable on the positive terminal. They have said the reason is because the cable has 'worked its way loose' from the clamp and not been making a propper connection causing high resistance and melting. The more I think about it, I can't see it. Something's shorted on something for somewhere for some time to cause a cable that thick to melt, surely? Also, they were the last to touch the car at service a few weeks ago - not sure they'd disconnect the battery for that for any reason, it's only the first service - and then before that, they replaced under warranty the drivers door latch mechanism, and i know they disconnected the battery for that. I've never touched it. It's 1 year old and 12k on the clock. I need to have a look at the cable before I decide just how much I lose my mind, I need to know where the battery is situated and where this cable was - I need to work out if there was a risk of fire here, then i'll decide what I do next. in the mean time they're fixing it and i'm just awaiting further news. Just hope it's not fried anything else, because the errors about lots of different systems are there - hoping it's due to battery voltage and poor connection more than any knock on effects.
  7. Hi all, Just a post of two halves really. Been lurking for a little while, thought I'd let you all know about a situation with the XFS and see if anyone else has had similar. On the M62 with the cruise on at 70, for about 30 minutes, when 'active dynamic system fault' warning on the dash. Thought ok fair play it's under warranty. Followed a minute later by 'battery not charging'. Ok that's not so good, turns the heated seat off and the fans off. Phoned Jag, got the jag assist number from them by text just in case, pulled into the nearside lanes in case it died and I had to stop on the motorway. Jag told me to bring it straight in on my way home if I could, and they'd look at it straight away, not to turn it off when I got there but to keep it running. While on the phone, the cruise disabled, and I got all sorts of very fast warnings one after the other on the dash, so I was guessing it was on its last legs in terms of battery at that point. It made it in to Jag, they had a look and said it was the main battery voltage that had dipped enough to cause a problem, and that along with me they suspected the alternator. Although, it had charged back to 100% and they couldn't cause fault with the alternator. They put me straight into another XF (albeit not the S, it's still an R-Sport with a few options so it's not far off), told me they'd get back on it the next day and would get Jaguar Engineering involved. So far I'm a happy chap. Not happy I've had the experience in a one year old car with 12k on the clock but at least happy to receive such great customer service and be looked after. Stuart at Hatfield's Wakefield is the chap you need if you're in the area :) Will post back the outcome. Mic
  8. Just spotted we've got the same forename, this is getting weird.
  9. The 3.0 S Portfolio is the nicest one you can get and the quickest one you can get, short of an R (or R-S). I had a Giulietta Cloverleaf on a 2011 plate from new and it fell to bits many times (had 2 gearboxes, a tailgate, a new front light unit, a new rear brake caliper, sat nav screwed itself several times...) But on that I had a filter, map, and Ragazon exhaust. It's actually the car they used to record the audio for Grid 2 (if anyone's into gaming). Driving it up and down an airstrip to have it recorded was a good laugh. Only thing I didn't like was the lack of bass so I put a pioneer sub in the spare wheel well and raised the boot floor slightly. It's my favourite car to date. I can't see that changing unless I manage to get hold of a Guilia QV at some point but they'll be like rocking horse poo. Since then I've had an Insignia VXR, A6 S line and a range rover sport. I've now got a 64 plate XF S portfolio with black pack and most options on it (aluminium pedals, interior lighting upgrade, optional black wheels, etc). Found it 1 owner at 10 months old, 5500 miles on it, £33,000. That was end of September. So far, loving it. But having had two sluggish cars (by comparison to this the GQV, and the VXR), I feel it might loose me my license! But i'll go out with a smile on my face. It's also about as new as you can get without it being a facelift to the XE style. Jury is out on that. I had an XE for a minor warranty job on drivers door lock last week, and it was ok, it drove really well, did 60 something to the gallon, driven mainly on motorway. But that was the 2l diesel. And it felt cheap by comparison but it's probably because i'm used to the portfolio now, which is as much luxury as you can get in a car without going to Bentley.
