  1. Happy Birthday Big Cat!

  2. Just a quick update. I started to take apart the centre console to check for anything obvious and I notice the sport buttom loom hadnt been conected back up. I attached it and now the button works. There was nothing else obviously loose so do you think this couldve cause the cut out?
  3. Cheers Big Al. This is the 1st time its happened and came as a shock. I have had some work done on the centre console. I have had the head unit and the digital clock replaced. I have also noticed that the sport light on the dash doesnt light up when switched on and the button next to the gear stick doesnt light up either, so hopefully this will fix itself if I take it all apart again.
  4. Hi there, While approaching a roundabout doing about 50mph on a 60 limit my engine, abs and power steering cut out. It also brough up the orange light in the top left of the dash for the autobox failing. I managed to pull over and after turning the ignition on and off it started fine and turned the light out. The car then drove fine all of the way home. This couldve been a lot worse if there had been any other cars around so I was wondering if I should be worried? Or does anyone have any suggestions of what it couldve been or any tips as how to make sure it doesnt happen again? Cheers again, Mark
  5. I had it looked at by another local specialist and he agreed its nothing to worry about. He also reckons as the car has hardly been used the last few years it will get smoother over time if I run it gently for the next few hundred miles. Ive also changed the fluids and filter and it seems a lot smoother.
  6. I have a 1996 4.0 Sov and the electric steering wheel adjust switch doesnt work. If I push the switch back and forth I can hear a whirring noise that sounds like a motor but the wheel doesnt move. When I push the switch up or down it just makes a clicking sound. What I would like to know is, how many motors are in there? Is it one motor that moves it up, down, back and forth? If so would I just need to replace the cable? Or does it have two motors? One for up and down, and another for back and forth? If so do I just need to replace the one for up and down? I have searched for a 2nd hand up & down motor and cant find one anywhere which makes me think there may only be one. Also when I set the memory seats it never leaves the seat all the way back. When I sit in the seat I always have to move it back 1". Another issue is the electric front passenger mirror moves to face the sky once I start to reverse and I have to move it down once I start moving forward. Will this problem be connected with the column issue? Or if I replaced the window/mirror switch with a non memory one would this stop the mirror and seat moving everytime I lock/unlock the doors. I know this is a lot of questions but these issues are really effecting my enjoyment of the car as I am quite tall and struggle to get in and out with the wheel be so low. I am also on a tight financial and time budget so any information before I buy any parts or take it all to peices would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for any replies. Mark
  7. Cheers for the reply. I will get it looked into tomorrow. Fingers crossed its nothing serious!!!
  8. Hi me again! As the title says how smooth should a auto gearbox be? I have just bought my first Jaguar and also my first auto car. I am used to driving manual diesel cars and I am not sure what I should be looking out for. My car is a 1996 4.0 Xj6 and when it changes from 1st to 2nd there is a noticable (I want to say clunky but its not really the sound but more of a slight jerky) gear change. This is the same for most of the up and down changes but particularly 1st to 2nd. I have taken it to a local specialist as I have read the gearboxes can be expensive so would rather do the work now incase it fails. He didnt seem to think I should worry. Another thing to mention is the car has 64k and full service history, the fluid is a pinky colour and doesnt look burnt. I suppose does this sound normal is my real question? Any replies with bad news or to give me some piece of mind would be appreciated Thanks again.
  9. Yeah they are amazing to drive. Ive got a bit of work to do on mine which should keep me occupied over the winter, but looking forward to summer cruzing. So far the best car Ive ever owned.
  10. Hi everyone. I have just bought a 1996 XJ6 and the steering wheel doesnt move up/down or in/out. When I use the switch I can hear the motor going but nothing happens. Does anyone have any ideas and can you tell me if it is meant to go up/down and in/out? Cheers Mark
  11. Hi again, I was wondering if you guys arrange club meets and/or days to car shows? Im new to the Jaguar scene, but have been to many meets with other car clubs and found them fun and interesting. So I was wondering if there is anything in the pipeline? Cheers Mark
