hi there, joined the forum to ask a few questions as im looking to buy a petrol x type, i dont do alot of miles as i have a van for work and dont feel the need for a diesel anymore, i have seen a couple of nice 2.0 v6 se models but havent been quick enough to get to the forecourt for a look, looking for something around 05/06, questions - is there much difference between consumption between the 2.0 and 2.5 models, wondereing if its worth keeping options open for both, which is more reliable ? are they prone to any nasty expensive faults ?

cheers

Welcome to the Club, Craig.

I used to have an  X Type 2.5 litre petrol SE with a manual gear box on an 05 plate.  It was All Wheel Drive and a very nice car, and a bit more economical than the 2.5 litre Rover that I had previously.

I had no issues at all with the Jaguar and it was a very reliable and quick car to drive.  I would still be driving mine if a paid of scroats had not carjacked it.

You will find the right one and you will enjoy the Jaguar experience.

Regards

Peter.

Welcome Craig

I'm the proud owner of a 2.5 V6 SE XType and wouldn't trade it for the world. As long as you keep it well serviced it should give you many years of trouble free luxury motoring. I previously owned a 1600 Focus Ghia and the fuel consumption with the Jag is as good if not better.

Hope this helps

Hi Craig,

As Peter says, I'm looking to sell my X-type  - 2004 (54plate) petrol 2.5 V6.

Like he says, its a great car - mines very solid, constant power on tap. You can see it up for sale on autotrader here: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201410198333990

Get in touch if you'd like to talk - appreciate we're opposite ends of the country!

Cheers

Ed

Hi Craig,

You will get slightly better consumption from the manual gearbox.  Driving carefully on the M1 I got over 35 mpg on a long run, and around town was getting around 26. 33mpg was a normal figure on a long run driving within the speed limit.

A full tank of petrol will give you about 350 miles.

Hi Craig,

I don't know anyone with the 2.1 V6 x type.   But I do know that I had heard nothing adverse about that engine.  It is not as quick, and it is not an all wheel drive, but a little  more economical.  If you get it with the SE standard spec plus a few optional extras [satnav etc] you will still have Jaguar luxury and a good drive.  And there is nothing wrong with the few Mondeo bits that are used   --  it is done all the time by car manufacturers.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Craig

As Peter says I get around 350 miles to a full tank with my 2.5 V6 automatic. I would imagine that you would get slightly better fuel consumption with a manual but that all depends on how you drive. Although the car is very capable of fast speeds and beating most cars off the lights I tend to drive in a more sedate pace not having anything to prove and therefore get better economy. Both the 2.1 and the 2.5 engines are pretty bullet proof, and looked after will last for the life of the car.

Regards

Glyn

Remember you get what you pay for. Jag prices vary considerably depending on condition and service history. If you want a decent 05 XType you wont get much change out of 4k. Anything cheaper and your asking for trouble.
