Comfortable seats for an X type?

Dear all, We have a lovely 2004 X Type 3.0 Auto. It has still only done 32K miles and is a joy to drive EXCEPT that my wife and I (as we get older) are finding the seats increasingly uncomfortable! They are 'standard' SE cloth ones. They have the smaller bolsters each side of the base and backs - and are just too hard. It feels like you are sitting ON the seats and NOT in them. I am convinced that we would be far more comfortable and well placed by the more 'sporting' style that I can see fitted to some versions  -  sadly down in Devon there are not vast number of X Types about so I am having to just go on pictures on line.   I THINK there are possibly two 'sport' versions of the seats - both seem to have the seat centre 'seams' running side to side (as opposed to the front to back 'seams' on our seats) and have slightly different head restraints and bolsters. I would like to be able to buy a nice set of the biggest bolstered seats. Sorry about going on - my questions are 1. Are you an 'expert' on the seats in an X Type and can tell exactly what it is I should seek out? 2. In Devon there are no specialist Jaguar breakers within about 150mies!  Do any of you have experience of the various 'Specialist' breakers that can be found online (or otherwise) and would you recommend I speak to any in particular. Happy Christmas soon.:xmas:

I wouldn't go for the sports seats. I never found the SE seats too bad but hated the sports seats on the 2.5 sport estate I used to own. I disliked them so much I nearly got rid of the car after a month. However for about £20 from Amazon I bought a leather covered seat cushion and that solved my problem which was they were so hard and gave no support to my upper leg. I used to feel I had walked the distance I was driving.

Hi Fred , i have a 3.0 SE with leather seats which i find very comfortable , but what i find comfortable might not suit you . I think you actually need to sit in a car with different seats and see how they feel before you spend any money . Maybe there are members living nearby that could help you out .

Regards,

Andy .

Hello Stephenk, It sounds to me that you had the same problem with the Sports seats that we find with the SE seats - they seem just too hard for us - and that seems to exacerbate the feeling of sitting on top of the seat.  My thinking was that the bolstering on a Sport seat might at least provide sideways support and better location in the seat. At the moment we have tried a few cushions - but to no avail. Perhaps it is time to try a few more.

Hello ANDYDJ, I think you make a very good point. I wonder if anyone reading this lives in the South West and has an X Type equipped with Sports seats and would let me just try them for size?

At this time I have yet to track down a set of cream coloured seats to buy.

Cheers all for your help.

Fred

Hello Stephenk,

Some time ago we did try some traditional house cushions - but they were non-starters.  I have bought two 'gel' cushions of different thicknesses. We have yet to go on a longish drive, but the thinner one does feel like it might be good. Fingers crossed. Cheers, Fred
