'07 XK Spec - Opinions?

I'll probably be handing over a wad of cash and driving away in a low-mileage, but completely history-free (for the moment)  '07 XK (n/a) tomorrow. I've found it on TOPIx, and the build datacard is:

  • 3.07 FINAL DRIVE RATIO
  • 255/35 FRT/285/30 RR ZR20
  • AUTO DIMMING REAR VIEW MIRROR
  • bluetooth CONNECTIVITY
  • CASTLE BROMWICH
  • CONTOURED SPORT REAR SEAT
  • CORNERING LAMPS
  • CRUISE CONTROL
  • DRIVER HEATED SEAT-VARIAB TEMP
  • ENGLISH/EXPORT LITERATURE PACK
  • FRONT PARKING AID
  • GLASS BREAKAGE SENSOR
  • HEATED PASS SEAT-VARIABL TEMP
  • HTD/P-FOLD/MEM/A-DIM
  • I/P FACIA MONOTONE-CARAMEL
  • INT CARAMEL CARPET-JAGUAR
  • IRELAND
  • Jaguar SEAT BELT-CARAMEL
  • KEYLESS ENTRY-PASSIVE
  • MARKETING LEVEL 1
  • MULTI SLOT CD PLAYER
  • NAV SYS/DYNM RUTE GUDE-TRF MST
  • NAVIGATION DISK - EUROPE
  • POWER 16-WAY DRIV SEAT ADJUST
  • POWER 16-WAY PASS SEAT ADJUST
  • REVERSE PARKING AID
  • SATELLITE DIGITAL AUDIO PREP
  • SPARE WHEEL-MINI ALUM
  • STNG WHL-WOOD/LEATHER
  • SUPERSPORT SUSPENSION
  • WHEEL ARCH SPATS(DNU)
  • WHEELS-8.5X20 FRT/9.5X20 RR
  • WOODEN GEAR SHIFT KNOB
  • LESS AIR PURIFIER SENSOR
  • LESS BREAKDOWN WARNING SIGN
  • LESS FIRST AID KIT
  • LESS HEATED FRONT WINDSCREEN
  • LESS RUN FLAT SYSTEM
  • LESS SOUND SYSTEM (L0)
  • LESS TYRE PRESSURE MONITORING
  • LESS VOICE ACTIVATED CONTROLS

I originally thought it was probably from Japan; not so - from Ireland. JLR have confirmed it was made for the Irish market. It may not be too difficult to obtain any service records there are for the car from there though. It looks as though the recorded mileage is true, though it may of course have had the mileage 'corrected' (_= fiddled) before it came across the Irish Sea.

It seems a bit poverty-spec, but I don't know how well-specified most of them are. I would have liked a heated front screen, but I can live without that, and the other 'Less' items don't matter to me; in the case of runflats, I'd positively not want them anyway. My must-haves are satnav and rear parking sensors, and it's nice to find it has front parking sensors, too.

One thing puzzles me, though. It is "Less Sound System", but has a CD player.  Could some kind individual enlighten me on that?

I wouldn't call that a poverty spec.

I have the heated windscreen and wouldn't like to be without it, though at the time of purchase it would not have been a deal breaker.

Like you, I am puzzled by "less sound system" but, as you say, it obviously must have one.

I would welcome the fact that it doesn't have TPMS, which used to give spurious warnings on my XF.

Thanks David. I handed over the cash; I knew I would...

Judging from the interior, it's definitely done very few miles, so it looks like the mileage is correct. It drives perfectly; no qualms on that score.

The bodywork has plenty of minor marks, though, so I'll have to get that sorted. Some numpty has scraped the side of his wagon quite heavily right along the front bumper, and that will definitely need a respray, as will the rear bumper right side corner to remove some minor stone chips, and the bonnet is scratched badly enough to need a respray as well. .

MIssing/damaged bits? The right rear light cluster needs to be replaced; there's no grille of any sort behind the front bumper below the number plate (broken lugs when said numpty scraped it?); the little pop-out carpet panels in the boot to give access to the light clusters are missing; the parking sensors aren't working. Bizarrely, the DSC warning light came on when I first used the windscreen wipers, then went off the second time I used them, and remained off thereafter. The alloys are in poor condition and need a refurb; I don't believe they have done a low mileage, so I reckon some git has sold the good ones and replaced them with these...

I'll get the OBD reader on it soon to see what codes there are, but overall, I reckon it's a genuine car. It's definitely a keeper.

Welcome to the club, Dennis.

Nice car and a good spec.

Less sound system  --  I guess that there is an optional extra to add a more expensive system.

I have just had my alloys refurbished and repaired at a local specialist  Two wheels needed repair and were, and all 5 wheels [I have a 'proper" spare wheel] were given the full treatment -- powder coating etc. A great job and well done and all for £520.

Regards,

Peter.

Thank you, gentlemen. A couple more minor faults have shown up; the air conditioning doesn't, and the aerial mast has partially seized. I'll add some R134a and see if that sorts the aircon out, but despite copious oiling and cleaning, the aerial is too stiff for the motor to extend or retract it fully before it cuts out. I expect that masts are readily available.

For the wheels, there's a firm in NW London that advertises on eBay - £360 exchange for a set of refurbished wheels, including swapping over the tyres - so I think I'll try them.

Pictures will follow once it's sorted.

Dennis

  • 2 weeks later...

Mileage is confirmed. I've been in touch with the Irish dealer who sold it; they will also send me the service history (one owner, bought 1/1/2007; serviced Aug 2008, Jan 2010, May 2012, Jun 2013 and Aug 2015. The odometer reading at the last service was 24239 km (15,150 miles). I won't tell you how little I paid for it, but it was cheap cheap CHEAP (no service history, needing minor bodywork, mileage unverified). Even allowing for £900 for the bodywork and a machine polish (finished tomorrow or Friday), and a few other bits and pieces, it's very much a result.

Pics to follow. I'm a happy bunny, believe me.
