Hi,

After having problem with crankshaft, rings and some additional parts..

Repairing the engine is quite expensive.

My car is 2006 S type 2,7d. @105.000km.

I plan to buy a complete new engine and import it to Turkey.

Any advice for shop for engine will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Ozkan,

Nobody has replied so I'll try to help! If spares availability are an issue in Turkey, would it be worth seeing if you can source a complete donor car, with an engine, either locally or somewhere else in Europe? There are a few eBay sellers advertising complete engines, but at c£3K for the diesels, I can't see this being a cheap exercise! Which is why I wonder if you could buy a complete car and drive it back?

There are also online breakers you need to enter details for and they'll come up with what they have, this could be worth a go. And as you are probably aware, the 2.7D in the S-Type was used in a variety of other cars, so there may be something else in a local breakers that may be suitable:

Diesel engines are the Ford/Peugeot 2.7L HDi Ford AJD-V6/PSA DT17 which is used in a number of Ford, Peugeot, Citroen, Jaguar and Landrover models.

Hope this helps!

Hi Russ68,

Thank you for your reply.

My car (engine) is under a heavy repair... Still...

I've bought the car for aprrx. 16K €.

The new engine (the bottow half) : 6K €.

A donor car.. It is too hard to find a "healthy donor" I couldnt.

I decided to haul the engine.

For probably 3 weeks, the engine is at the repair shop. The rest of the car is in my garden.

I think within 2 weeks we will see the result.

I've bought a 2006 Hyundai Starex 5+1, 2,5L Crdi A/T for a spare car (truck)

Because I will take many spare parts to Corfu Island (Greece), I needed a reliable and big car.

I communicated with Jaguar Turkey for my problem. And I complained about the crankshaft. They are not interested in the subject.

Glad you're making progress Ozkan, sounds like running a S-Type in Turkey is more expensive than the UK! I was recently offered a complete 2005 running donor for my car for £400 / €475, but this was a petrol not a diesel. We are lucky here that there are plenty of S-Types, and they are just at that time when the values are relatively low and many are coming off the road because of MOT (annual road safety test) failure. So secondhand spares are relatively cheap, and good availability of independent new spare parts keeps the prices low.

Hopefully you will be back on the road in your Jaguar soon

Second hand S type 2.7d's at Turkey are sold about : €14,000 to €22,000..

Same years of Mercedes E Class is about 50% higher price..

But Jags are at low mileage, the E types with a high mileage..

:)

Wow! That's quite expensive, the cheapest example I've found in the UK is this 2005 model at £2495 = €2908, but I'm guessing you'd want left hand drive in Turkey, so perhaps could buy from Germany or similar. When I was last in Turkey, this fantastic taxi driver had bought an old W123 Mercedes and drove it home himself. He was still using it 10 years later when he drove us to Ephesus!

Yes,

Our car "policy" or "politics" is quite interesting.

We can not import second hand cars to Turkey even we pay the needed tax. Sure exluding rare exceptional situations, like workers living outboard for a along time etc...

This law is "because" to protect the local car producers.

We have a really "tough" custom - border rules.

Once; I paid ~20€ punishment, because I had a 3-5liters of whiskey, which was exceeded the limit of 1lt/person, when we were 2 adults in the car. I even cant imagine to put some engine parts from Germany or Greece to Turkey... :)

Yes we have many / plenty of classic cars here..

But I havent seen a W123 taxi for many years..

Did you also visit House of Holy Virgin Mary's, very near to Ephesus?

PS : I have started to write my toughts and experiments about Jaguar Turkey or Jaguar center problem and neglentance to web..

They should produce (or use) high quality crankshafts..  Even at S type 2.7d diesels..

IMO S type diesel engines have problem at crankshafts.

And Jaguar S type 2.7d diesel engines have manufacturing defects.

The newer crankshafts are somewhat different than the older types.

Hi to all!

I've completed the engine repair process..

Now engine runs without problem.

But it was a heavy, long and expensive job.

Probably, my next car will not be an used diesel...

V8 gasoline engine seems to be good choice for me..

I think the 2.7 Diesel is used in the Freelander, and as the  Gemini engine was designed and produced as a joint venture with Peugeot [and some others] it is possible that there will be some around in Europe.

Well done Ozkan! I imagine your job would have been easier in the UK with more widely available second hand parts. Hopefully it will be worth it and you will have many years of good service from your Jaguar .

For interest, may we ask what you pay for your fuel in Turkey? Cheaper than here I bet! :wink1:
