Limp Mode

Hi All

I have a 2ltr Diesel 2005 Estate, I am having this problem with the car going in to limp mode. The symptoms seem to be at about 60 to 70 MPH. If I accelerate hard through to gears it will go in to limp mode in third or forth. If I drive it gently through all the gears its ok and I can drive at 70 all the time. However, if I accelerate hard at above 70mph it will go in to the limp again. When this happens all I need to do is stop and restart the car and all is ok.

Can anybody give me advice on this. I also note that on rare occasions I seem to have a fuel surge(feel like I am using cruse control).

thanks

disconnecting the battery (or changing it) clears any code either on or pending it takes a while before the pcm decides if/or there is a problem needing to be coded...do you have an abs problem and/or when it happens does your speedo needle drop to a lower speed than you are traveling ...mine did today which is making me think speed sensor/wheel bearing one of mine is starting to make a noise and my abs doesn't work at all

:D  Well Just picked up the Jag from my local garage. I had a bad Oil leak from the timing case.  The bill was £400 to replace the crankshaft Oil seal and the timing case cover.  When they striped it down they had to remove the EGR and found it to be clogged.  They have cleaned it out and the old girl runs fine. I thrashed it up to 70mph and no limp mode!! Maybe this has done the trick

Many thanks for all advise.

  • 4 months later...

had same problem with my Jaguar x type 2005 estate 20d found to be camshaft sensor as it eventually stopped on the side of the road, the RAC man had one on his van on a Sunday afternoon, brand new in the box, he fitted it turn the key and off i went, only changed me £25.00 for the part, i could have kissed him, the jag has been fault free since just covered over 1000 mile down to Wales and back to Scotland perfect at 49 miles mpg, even the wife said what a great car it was, and she went mad when i told her i was going to buy the jag, what a difference a few months make, not been plain sailing though, parts fitted by myself, N/S front strut and spring, N/S rear shock absorber, top suspension arm, offset arm on bottom and new wish bone with new bushes fitted to the inner side, just to get rid of a knocking on the N/S/R, also full engine service, and lots of diesel cleaner type fluid,

been Audi lover for last 30 years thought i would try something different, absolutely love the jag estate, what a car for the money (just over £2000), still had issues scratched windows front and back, some little dinks in body work, and the bubbling window trims, (to be fixed soon)

any info appreciated

Guys, I was having problems with my 2.0d going into limp mode and glow plug light coming on under heavy acceleration at 70mph +, would turn ignition off and back on again and it would be fine until the next time...

I've just recently had a new clutch and flywheel fitted and the mechanic noticed I had a diesel leak from a fuel hose connection so he fixed it while he was on with the clutch.

I don't know what was causing the Limp mode problem however its not happened again since the new clutch and diesel leak has been fixed. And I have tried thrashing it to make sure, its definitely not doing it now.
