X Type 2.0d manual estate (06) - Turbo problems / Vibration

Hi All - Help needed !

Having problems with the actuator on the turbo, the car goes into "limp home" mode and the coil lights flashes when accelerating the car in 3rd gear.  It also has a nasty vibration when accelerating beyond 50mph - this worsens to 70 then eases off after this time but then stops when foot off the accelerator. This also occurs in cruise control.

Turbo

My mechanic found the code P132B and a diesel specialist replaced the actuator before Christmas, only for the same issue to arise last week!  It went back to them and they replaced the actuator again and flushed the turbo today.  It went again on the way home today.

Does anyone have any ideas please?  It's going back to the specialist tomorrow for them to check it over but they have already mentioned a replacement turbo!  If this is the case is it worth buying a recon' ?

I've just spent £600 on the new actuator but can only find turbo's with the actuator already fitted !  The specialist is taking about £800 for the turbo and my local dealer has mentioned £1500 plus labour.

Vibration

This started before Christmas also.

I've has had the front tyres replaced with balance and tracking - to no joy.

Could this be linked with the turbo issue?  I have read it could be the driveshafts but that seems to refer to the 4wd models only.

Any advice and ideas would greatly appreciated.

Many thanks and Happy New Year to all here.

Dom

Hi Dom

Oh dear your Jag does sound in a poor way!

The code you mentioned isn't correct .... it should be P132(8?) possibly 8 or another digit?

It sounds like an injector has gone offline as the revs increase to around boost pressure.

There should really be a more in-depth diagnosis with live data to determine the actual cause of the fault when it is occuring.

If you could get back to me with more diagnostic information, that would really help.

The vibration could very well be related to the engine fault.

Regards    Trevor

Sorry Dom...you're right on the code.

I have done a bit of research into the fault which seems to be turbo boost related.

Many X-Type owners have used a product by Innotech to clean the turbo with great results

Worth looking at to try before replacing any expensive components

  • 1 year later...

Hi mate,  This seams to be a very common problem with Xtype and other ford related engines. My turbo had to be changed according to the dealership at a cost of £1300 about 4 years ago.(limp mode problem) I discovered later it could have been the actuator. Last May I was driving from the UK to Alicante and about 50 k from home it went into limp mode again. I parked and allowed the engine to cool somewhat and it started ok.  Then it did again 5 times on the trot. I took the car to my local garage in Spain.  He took the turbo off, checked it and we had the Actuator properly examined. I sent it to an electronics firm near Canwick. It cost £50 but came back 100% ok. The mech. refitted everything did an Oil change as he said claggy Oil in the turbo can cause it to go into limp mode, he also cleaned out the EGR. The car goes better than ever. I get 48/50 to the gallon, it never did that before, and the acceleration is incredible. I suggest have the turbo cleaned and do those other things I mentioned. Dont go to the dealer they will rob you. They dont even consider the actuator, they will tell you they cannot do it without changing the whole thing. The actuators themselves have problems with the soldering on wiring inside. This can be fixed, there are a lot of firms that can do it.

Hope this helps.

Hi again, ref your vibration,  mine did it and it was the drive shaft, the larger one of the two. Symptoms were appearing on acceleration, especially uphill felt like tyres out of balance. The whole front end shakes. Got a drive shaft from e bay £60 problem solved.
