entry/exit

Hi all

Could anyone tell me if my drivers seat should move right back when I remove the ignition key to get out?

The steering wheel lifts right up and in but no seat movement.

I don't know if it has to be set up to do so.

Regards

Keith

Hi Kevin,

When the Jaguar S Type had a facelift circa 2004 they stopped using the steering wheel lift up at entry/exit and used the idea of the seat moving back instead.

I am afraid that the system is either one or the other.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Keith,

I have a 2004 SE, when I remove the key the steering wheel moves up and the seat moves back.

Check If the rotary switch on the left hand side of steering wheel is set to Auto.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Pete and Mike.

Thanks for your comments.

Its just that the hand book says that both should operate and then go back to the driving position upon inserting the ignition key.

Hi Mike and Keith,

I have just this minute found out why my steering wheel does not move up when key is taken out on exit.  It was already on the top position!  Duff information from the dealer when I bout the car a year ago.

Re-set your seat and wheel movements with the seat controls etc. move them in all directions full movement. up, down, back and forward to full extent, then set to your reguired settings and try again to set memory switch. might work, mine did. it is what the hand book recomends

Good luck.

Stan

What?!! my steering and seat move on exit and entry?!! you lucky people, having a handbook!! I'm guessing at what buttons do when I press them lol.

I noticed that knob at the left of the steering column, turned it few times then give up because nothing seem to happen.

My steering wheel moves on entry/exit but my seat doesn't, initially I though it didn't because I have the seat near its limit anyway but on moving the seat forward and trying again it still didn't move.

Hi Kevin,

Have you used the memory setting for the seat?  I am clutching at straws for a solution.

You've just hit the nail on the head Peter, it would seem that, as with my car, the memory function setting that controls the steering wheel, seat, pedals and rear view mirror (if you were to have all these options installed) isn't fitted, ergo the steering column is all that adjusts on entry/exit.

If you have the memory setting option installed then you get control of all the above on entry/exit.

Hope this fits everyone's scenario's.

When you buy a used Jaguar [or indeed any luxury car] it is often worth while looking up the standard specifications for the model you are buying.

The price range of a new model often covers about £25k to have all the optional extras fitted, and it will surprise you to see what your car could have had.

For instance, my SE could have had Jaguar voice and TV on the touchscreen display, which is also an optional extra.

Often however, you will find that models towards the end of the production run are given a few optional extras free to use up some of the bits they do not want to keep in storage.

Yes I suppose that makes sense Kevin although I did not see that in the book anywhere.

Hi Keith, yes it is a little vague and based on a summations of my own after reading the hand book. Section 3-18 Before Driving section does state that the drivers seat should move on entry/exit, but then you also have the memory function (optional extra) for the seat, pedal and wing mirrors. It does seem a little strange that you would have two systems doing the same thing ie moving the seating position on entry/exit.
