Automatic CLUNK

When I select drive, the car makes a small jerk, but makes quite a loud CLUNK! Today I had passengers who own 2 Jaguars and they said this did not happen on either of theirs.

I dont have this on my 2006. Could be your transmission Oil needs changing and the gearbox ecu remapping as I know that there have been several upgrades to the ecu for stmptoms like yours. Suggest a main dealer phone call.

I would hope not Colin. In the early days there were plenty of gearbox noises and problems they managed to sort mainly with re programming the ecu box for the gearbox. I have just had a transmision Oil and filter change and the software upgrading at 70K and it feels like a brand new car .Im sure it will be a simple fix and wish you all the best.

Hi Colin,

What is the mileage on your car?  Jaguar say that the gearbox is sealed for the life of the car, but there are many well experienced owners who say that they have changed their gearbox Oil around 75k.

I think that these experiences show that gearbox Oil does need a change and that 75k is a good mileage to have it done.

Experience is better than handbooks.

Regards,

Peter.

I had the self same disgussion with one Jaguar dealer who said it was a lifetime box. After a letter to the gearbox manufacturers ZF and Jaguar UK this is rubbish and will end up costing you thousands if left as you will end up needing a new gearbox. It MUST be changed between 65 and 75 k without fail.

Hi Dave and Peter and all out there in S Type Land, as predicted by my friends, I came across some reluctance to change the Transmission Oil at Cornwall's Main Jaguar Dealers, But it was done, and a reprogramming of the ECU,and I have a CLUNK FREE Motor Car, as suggested like a NEW CAR!

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the subject, it carried some weight at the Garage as I took along the replies I had.

Cheers everybody.

Hello Colin.

I am so pleased that you resisted and challenged the main dealers reluctance to change the Oil and reprogram the ECU as many people walk away at that point and end up needing a new gearbox. I hope perhaps they learnt something and I am so pleased for you. It is surprising what a huge difference it can make. Good for you for sticking to your guns.

Colin,

Pleased everything is sorted. Not fond of main dealers as I find them well over priced and the tend to talk through their ***** !

I have told the dealership in Exeter that I will only be using them if anything crops up under warranty. All servicing will be done at an independent garage.

ATB,

Trevor

Hi Guys,

I'm having some of the same issues with my 04 V8 and the stealership are being their usual helpful selves! "Must be something more serious" "We'll need it for two days etc".

Has anyone used  Nene Jag Specialists in Peterborugh? or have any recommendations in the Northants, Beds, Cambs area?

Thanks,

Mike
