Should I give in to temptation? !

Now that I'm a pensioner I've decided it was time I was sensible .

I am really happy with my XKR, which is stunning.

But out of the blue I get this email from my tame Jag salesman ( the only one that speaks to me at the stealership)

" Hope you're all good up there in sunny North Devon?

I've just part-exchanged a stunning British Racing Green XKR-S Convertible which I sold new 2 years ago.

Rare car - would you be interested? "

What do you reckon, go for it, or be sensible (boring) ?

ATB,

Trevor

In the last three years i've had a BMW M sports convertible, a BMW M3 convertible, Aston Martin DB9 convertible, Aston Martin DB9 Le Mans, a Jaguar XJ Supersport,

and now the XKR, which is stunning.

I was thinking it was about time I started behaving, but I will see what they offer for the XKR, i've only had it for five months.

Peter,

No , the biggest problem with a rag top is not having any garage, which I haven't, I would much rather a manual than an electric roof .

I think the rag tops always look a  tad tacky also, much prefer the hard top convertible system such as the BMW's use. Looks a lot better in my opinion.

Also, it will cut down on the boot space a lot . Not had the pics and any offers sent back yet though ; the salesman was probably told off for speaking to me.

Trevor

Charlie,

I agree, it hasn't as much spec as mine, mine is a XKR Dynamic( whatever that is) I think mine looks better .

The XKR-S has done nearly 19000 miles, is six months older than mine, and is on sale for £61K .

So they would want my car and at least £16K .

Also seems very strange they come out of the woodwork soon as they think there is a possible sale

This is what they're trying to tempt me with .

But the answer will be "No thank you"

Charlie,

My XKR is very quick, I actually don't like the "towel rail" on the back of the XKR-S, and have always though rag tops look a bit scruffy .

Mine is a very good looking car and I think it actually looks better than the XKR-S, the difference in price between the XKR and the XKR-S is a lot, abut there is not a lot of difference in performance . Cannot see the point of giving the robbing B******S my car and £16k, for a car that is older, albeit only by six months.

This is the same reasoning I didn't but the XFR-S earlier in the year from them .

And Mark my words, the roof would go wrong .

Trevor

Hi Trevor,

Charlie is quite right. The XKR you have has a better spec that the XKR-S, and having a rag top is only for three months in the year at best.  We only used to use ours in the summer, and my wife preferred to drive the Rover anyway.

Performance wise, there is hardly any difference and in a straight time trial a skilful driver in an XKR would beat a less skilful one in an XKR-S.

I don't like green cars, anyway. My first 4 cars were green and I have not had one since!

Regards,

Peter.

Peter ,

You are right of course, but don't forget we have milder weather than you, I used to use the rag tops in the Aston and the BMW's in the winter .

I was just getting a tad disenchanted after receiving a letter stating my pension is to be means tested , and that pensioners still have to pay council tax, whilst the riff raff get a free living .

I think my car does look better, also I think the "S" versions of the XKR and the XFR are vastly overpriced for the slightly better performance they offer .

But if anyone is interested it's on sale for £61K at the Grange in Exeter.

ATB,

Trevor

Hi Trevor,

The State pension used to be free of tax until 1984 when the then Prime Minister taxed it.  Additionally Winston Churchill when he was Prime Minister instituted extra allowances to be set against income tax, which George Osborne is now phasing out.  Pensioners are fair game for any Government.

Peter,

You are right again, maybe I should have just ***** it all up against the wall like the work shy , for all the thanks you get for working your whole life and trying to make things secure for the future .

But I do have a nice Jag, and the sun is shining.

ATB,

Trevor
