XKR Service

Today I have taken my 2012 XKR in for a service, having been told it had been fully serviced when I bought it .

I have just had a phone call from the owner of the Independent garage, and  he stated in his opinion "The car had not been serviced since last October" (first service) .

Not only that,  but the rear brake pads are in a poor condition and will need replacing.

As the car is under warranty genuine Jaguar parts must be used, and they are well over £200 .

It is what I suspected with dealerships, they get these cars in, give them a quick check and wash, take your money and ship them out .

It is not what you expect from a £50K car that was less than two years old when I bought it in May, and i've done less than £4K in it since then .

So I will not be getting the car today, but will keep you updated, and give a full run down of the bill when I get the car back .

It is expense I wasn't expecting (especially with the house repairs), but the one plus, is that I can now deal with a decent, honest independent garage .

Never again will I deal with a dealership, bunch of con men !

ATB,

Trevor (a tad aggrieved !)

Hi Trevor,

I would be inclined to write to the Dealer from whom you bought the car, and indicate that you are unhappy with what they told you when the car was purchased.

When I bought my S Type last July Stratstone assured me that the car had had a full service.  It had also been given an MOT in the March and they did not propose to give it another.  I insisted on a new MOT, which I got.

Additionally, I had my mechanic look over it and he passed it as fully fit.

Prior to the warranty running out I prepared a list of niggles and booked the car into Stratstone for a full written report on all matters, even down to tyre tread and brake pad wear. They rectified a minor problem I had with the climate control and regassed the system.

I was well known for nitpicking with anything I bought and will continue to be so.

Regards,

Peter.

They really are a despicable bunch, I shall wait until I get the car back then go down there for a proper argument (it's a 140 mile round trip).

Last time I went, only the salesman would speak to me after I gave them a load of stick over the Aston, and they don;t reply to my emilas.

No doubt they will say it's my fault, and it's" wear and tear" , it is the blatant lies that annoy me .

Cannot understand why everything has to be such a battle .

But as I said, at least I have the satisfaction of knowing the car is being serviced properly from now on .

ATB,

Trevor

trevor the stealership would have replaced the brake pads as its still under warranty, and as you have bought an approved car from jag dealer you get a years warranty from them. i got that from the dealer i bought my xk from and after a few mths my front brakes wer sqealing mate (garage owner) said its the pads, take it in to them. and i did & they replaced them NO CHARGE. charlie

Charlie,

Brake pads are not  covered under warranty .

" Brake linings. brake discs, and other friction related components when replacement is due to wear and tear , but they are covered against manufacturing defects for the duration of the vehicle warranty" .

I have been in touch with the stealership, and they just said it wear and tear to the way it's been driven (usual cop out) .

I have three years Jaguar warranty, but brake pads and other consumables such as wiper blades and the like are not covered .

The best thing to do with stealerships is give the ******** a wide berth !

ATB,

Trevor

Charlie,

Best way, unfortunately I can't do things like that. In theory the stealership should have the decency to replace brake pads after such a short period of time, but as with insurance companies, everything is loaded in their favour, and they would only have clawed back the expense from other parts of the service (they charge £175 PH) .

But i do have a decent honest garage, which I wish I had stuck with .

I will do all future sales, purchases and servicing through them in future .

ATB,

Trevor

P.S. Don't even get me started on BT, Marks & Spencer, Hinds the jewellers, H. Samuel, and P C World . The wife claims I could start an argument in a morgue, it is not true, I am quite placid really, just like to see fair play

Trevor, if you never try you lose an experience.

I once sent a packet of 3 cream biscuits back to Edinburgh because there was no cream in them, asking them to put in the cream and return them.  They sent me a 6lb box of biscuits.

I sent a tin of sardines back to a company in Norway because  there was no key on the tin.  They sent me 8 tins in return.

At the worse Jaguar will tell you of go away.  At the best they will send you an XE.

As for an Oil and filter change personally I just wouldn't bother. National tyres, Kwik Fit and the like will perform an Oil and filter changer with recommended oils for a very reasonable price therefore, I would take it along to them. As for braes and the likes just use a garage you trust
