Hi everyone!

Just a quick message to introduce myself to the forum really!

Recently bought my first Jaguar, a 2004 x-type diesel, and i'm thoroughly enjoying every minute of it!

I've got a couple of questions about the car if anyone can help me out!

Is it normal for the temperature gauge to not move off cold? It moves slightly but never reaches the mid way point of the gauge. Also, has anyone had a Terraclean done on their car? I'm thinking of booking one and just wondered if its worth having it done.

That's it for now i think! I'll get a pic up soon! Any help or advice would be much appreciated! :-)

Thanks

Simon

Hi Simon, and welcome to the club,

There are a lot of friendly and helpful people here.

The diesel engine does take its time to get hot, and some  temperature gauges do sit quite low on the scale.

Terraclean?  Yes, I have had it done on my s type 2.7D, and was really surprised at the result.  I got a much improved performance, as well as a very good improvement in the mpg with a record 53 mpg on a drive up to Northwich a month ago.  There are several garages who do the Terraclean service in the area in which we live   ---    I used James Price, a mobile mechanic who comes to you house and does the job, and is good at it.  Try it.

Then get out and enjoy the great car you have.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Peter and thanks for the reply!

I was thinking maybe the thermostat has stuck open, resulting in the temperature gauge not moving? I bought the car from a garage in Warrington and noticed that the needle didn't move from the blue marker at all on the journey home. I just thought it was strange as with every other car i've owned, the needle has been pretty much in the middle of the gauge during normal driving conditions. I also drive a diesel van for work and that gauge shows the needle in the middle after only a few minutes. Hopefully I'm worrying about nothing!

I think I'm going to book in for the Terraclean. I've seen that chap you mentioned on the internet so i'll be giving him a call!

Regards

Simon

Hello everyone, I too am a first timer. I bought an S-type 3.0 v6 but then within 3 weeks found a xj8 sports in London, flew over and drove it home to Belfast. It has a few niggles but I'm sure with the Jaguar owners club I will work my way through..I will add some photos when I work my magic on her.

Hi guys.

I've developed a bit of a problem today! Tried to start the car after a bit of shopping and it just started whining at me! Tried it a couple of times more, exactly the same! I instantly thought it's a starter motor fault. Luckily i noticed an AA van parked on the carpark helping some other poor bloke out so I asked him to have a quick listen and he said it sounds like the starter motor isn't engaging, thus the engine not turning over. He said he's also known it to be a faulty fly wheel causing the same symptoms. He told me to keep trying as it may catch, which it did! Got her home and tried it again, wouldn't start! I left it for half an hour and tried again. After a couple of attempts it started and hasn't done it again since!

Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?

Regards

Simon

Hi Simon,

Yes, I had the same problem about 20 odd years ago with a  21 year old VW Beetle, but never with a modern car.

I don't get oily hand anymore, but I think some one with more expertise will give you some advice,

Regards,

Peter,
