Trevor,

Try this:

1 . Insert key into ignition barrel.

2 . Press and hold the Reset switch (located on the Trip Computer Switchpack).

3 . NOTE: The reset switch has to be released immediately after the ignition is switched 'ON'. This is critical to enable the rest of the procedure.

Turn the key to Ignition position II and at the point of entering Ignition position II (i.e when a click is heard), instantaneously release the Reset switch.

4 . Wait one second.

5 . Press and hold the Trip switch (located on the end of the left-hand side stalk).

6 . Wait one second.

7 . Press and hold the Reset switch (whilst still holding the Trip switch).

8 . The cluster should display (within three seconds) the warning message 'RESETTING SERVICE MODE'.

9 . Keep both buttons pressed until the warning message changes to 'SERVICE MODE RESET' (after ten seconds).

10 . Once the message is displayed the buttons may be released  sequence is now complete.

11 . If a Service Required message was displayed prior to the reset sequence, cycle the ignition to 'Off' and then back to Ignition position II and check that the message is no longer displayed.

Trevor,

Latest update on my XKR, they can't find a fault but said their might be a possible fault and want to replace the part .

Jaguar haven't got the part, and it is going to take them at least two weeks to get it, so being realistic it isn't going to be fixed this year, thank God it's a British car (sarcasm).

I am totally fed up with it, and wishes I'd never bought it .

ATB,

Trevor (the grey haired one)

I  got code P0402 on Saturday.  There is a product from Wynns that is supposed to clean the EGR valves, which I had already got from Halfords when I last got the warning light.  It seems to work.

You get the engine up to normal operating temperature, take out the air filter, and give short bursts into the air intake with the engine on tickover.  It will eventually start to race a bit and make an exaggerated knocking.  You then need to get the engine up to about 1400 revs and continue the process.  It will give bursts of acceleration periodically which may alarm the other person with their foot on the accelerator.

When you have run out of the spray, switch off the engine, and then switch on.  _  the warning light should have gone.

Peter.

hi peter mine is running rough but no lights on I am just hoping its the egr  it is back at the dealers but they have not looked at it when I rung so if it was the egr would their be a light on? I can only see what they say when they get around to it just say it was the worst case and the engine was shot as I only bought the car last Wednesday would it be down to them

Hi Trevor,

If there was an engine malfunction such as a sticky valve or a blocked EGR valve the engine warning light would come on, and you would need a code scanner to find out exactly what is wrong.

I don't know whether the dealer has given you a warranty but if not the Sale of Goods act [i think] states that the goods should be of merchantable quality and the dealer would be required to repair/replace/refund.  If however there was something in the contract saying "as seen" you might have an argument.

An engine running rough could be one of quite a few things  ---  hopefully it cold be just something that a Terraclean will solve,

Good luck

Peter.

That's great, Trevor.

That's what I got from a Main Dealer when I bought my s type June before last   ----   just three weeks after my x type was stolen.

You will have your Jaguar fixed and then you will really enjoy the Jaguar experience,

Peter.
