Well today i filled my Xtype indianapolis up with unleaded from tesco as it was 1.11 a litre 3p a litre less than the local bp.....i will be sticking to premium fuel, as noticed today my fuel consumption has dropped, only been tatting round town and already the gauge has come off the full, When i used bp fuel it took around 3 days to move the needle..so for the sake of 3p a litre i will be sticking with premium fuel....anybody else noticed the difference between fuel at a garage and fuel at a supermarket

Trevor has put the answer succinctly.  Apparently Supermarket fuel has a higher amount of biodiesel content than forecourt fuel.  People will tell you that tankers all fill up at the same depots as each other . Yes, they do.  But has anyone noticed the taps on top the the tankers?

There is your answer.

I  use "every little helps" diesel mainly because of the money off vouchers and have also noticed a drop off in mpg. Next time I fill up I will be adding 200ml of 2 stroke Oil as this helps with performance and higher mpg as I'm led to believe from members of another jag forum.

That is very interesting, I didn't realize that there was any difference. Will try the premium next time I fill up.  I only usualy put in £30 at a time. no point dragging all that weight around on short trips.

noticed today my local bp has dropped to 1.10 a litre for unleaded so a bonus , i have noticed a drop in performance as well...and...i don't know if this has anything to do with the tesco fuel....she keeps stalling ( no it isnt me ) she has never done it before...needless to say think when she gets to half a tank i will refill her with proper stuff and thanks for the advice guys

That is my intention next time I top up, it might be worth the extra cost for better performance and mpg . My local garage is BP but you get extra points if you have a Tesco card. I wonder what fuel they are using.

My local Esso was selling petrol at 1.06/litre for petrol and 1.11/litre for diesel.

I'll just stick with forecourt diesel as I maintain a decent mpg and the engine seems run a lot smoother although I do add a shot of Millers when filling up.

James,

Don;t know about the devil's fuel, but i've been told by various mechanics never to use supermarket fuel in decent engines, as they lack the additives .

But it seems logical, supermarkets sell inferior meat, fruit , and veg, so why not fuel?

For a few pence I'm not going to risk it , nearest supermarket selling fuel is 17 miles away anyhow.

Hi Trevor

Can't argue with that. We have a BP and Esso in town, nearest supermarket is 8 miles away.

I found using Esso or BP and a Terraclean made a considerable difference. I will use supermarket fuel only as a last resort.

James,

Peter says a lot of good things about that Terraclean process.

Not fond of supermarkets full stop. Tesco sacked a friend of mine on Thursday for wearing purple nail varnish , and yet expected it's workers to work in cold conditions over Christmas when the heating broke down for four days .

But big companies do what they want these days (Jaguar included) .

Stan,

I'm not the only one on these boards to be disillusioned by Jaguar's customer relations, and their dealerships .

I was also a big fan of Aston Martin until I owned a couple .

At the end of the day they are just bits of metal to serve a purpose .

In the past four years i've owned two BMW's, two Aston Martins, and two Jags, and the return for the amount of money spent has been very poor .

My present car i've only done 500 miles in , so can't really comment on it, apart from it seems very well built, and is very quick .

As long as everyone is happy with their car, that is all that matters really .

ATB,

Trevor

I previously used supermarket diesel in my 2L and the range would read about 590 miles when i brimmed it. Im on about my 10th tank of the top stuff and the range now regularly displays 640 miles. Cant notice much difference in pick up etc but the thought of prolonging the life of the injectors and spray patterns along with the range has very much persuaded me :). when the top stuff was £1.38 i worked out it was about £4-5 more than regular, i dont mind if it keeps her running smoothly. :)

Hi Ben,

I had a lot of money off coupons fro Sainsburys 15 months ago and had the same experience.  My 2.7D was showing  545 and now shows with a full tank 590.

A trerraclean service helped both the mileage and the performance,

Peter.
