Beeping! Not the horn.

Hello :)

I have just got my first X Type (54, Diesel Sport Premium).  I know it has an issue of some description and possibly battery related?

I stalled it a couple of times when first driving it (I had been driving a Mitsubishi SpaceStar prior to this and is completely different!) and after a few restarts, we had to push the car and jump-start it going again.  Drove it around successfully later that day.

Yesterday I moved the passenger seat with the electrics without the car running and appear to have killed the battery again.  Turning the key, there is a clicking and the lights/stereo flashes.  I have locked the car again (husband away) and it's just sat outside, giving out an occaisional beep, not from the horn.

Also, when I was driving around, another beeping noise was coming from the car - had a cd on and every now and then I would get 4-5 low-ish beeps and the stereo would go off and come on again?

Will give as much info as I can if asked for more.  Many thanks.

Louisa,

It sounds like you need a new battery, check the one you have first, or see if you can borrow one to see if it fixes the problem.

But a lot of niggling things point to a failing battery.

I would check that first

Welcome to the Club, Louisa,

A nice new big battery is called for as Trevor has said.

I have limited typing skills at the moment due to an altercation with a mandolin and a carrot.

Peter.

*faints*  :D

  • 3 weeks later...

Morning all, just a quick update.

So we've fitted a new battery and all is good.  Except...  The beeping from the stereo which only occurs in 2nd gear.

??? Loose wire perhaps somewhere?

Hi Louisa,

Some good news there.

On the beep -- It is 50 years and 7 months since I took a young lady for a day out to the Lake District on my venerable Triumph T100 for our first date.  On the way back a crunching noise occurred which I correctly diagnosed as a con rod going through the crankcase so causing the engine to seize just 40 miles from home.

A beep means nothing to me now, so I wouldn't worry.

Regards,

Peter.

P.S.  We have been married for almost 48 years, and the only beep I get is when I am exceeding the speed limit.

Errrrrrrr?!  Ok!

I wouldn't mind if the beeping didn't co-incide with the stereo turning off and on again lol.  Most annoying when listening to music!

And another beep thingy while I remember...  When I turn the key a few clicks and waiting for coil light to go out, is a continuous  higher pitch beep.  I have a beepy car, don't want a beepy car!

Hi Louisa,

I think you must be right about a loose wire somewhere.

There is a Jag expert in Doncaster --  listed in the Owners Lounge -- that is highly recommended by those members who have used this garage some coming from a fair distance away.  They could be worth trying if you have no success.

I don't think the skin graft has worked!!

Regards,

Peter.

Have you checked to ensure the alternator is doing what it is supposed to be doing.....

as for the beeps keep hitting various parts of the dashboard with a big hammer untill said beeping ceases to exist
