If they are giving you a quotation then I cannot see why not. It sounds as if they must be confident Jimmy and at least you can say, "Listen mate that's not right, I will collect the car when you put it right and pay you the price quoted at the same time".

Found the problem, injecter 1 is underfueling injecter 2 is overfueling, injecters 3 and 4 are fine

Information courtesy of a very helpfull AA man and his diagnostic tool so looks like i need two replacement injecters and a recoding session.

Anyone got any recomendations for suppliers or garages local to OX11 ?

Hi Jimmy,

Glad you have resolved the problem.

In the Jaguar Owners Lounge there is a list of recommended independent garages which is worth looking through, and you should be able to find one near to where you live.

Regards,

Peter.

I had a look yestday but couldn't find one near me and asked if anyone knew of a recommended indie near me, just awaiting a reply, nearest i could find was Marlborough Wilts

Been given a phone number of a mobile diagnostis chap who does work for trade only so going to see if i can get him to do it for me but doubt he will .

Hi Jimmy,

You can buy a diagnostic tool [OBD2] white cheaply from about £20 upwards.  They are quite easy to use and all you need to do is look up the code that it reads.

When I first had the engine fault amber light on I took the car into the main dealer locally and they pugged it in to their diagnostic gear and told me that it was the EGR valves, and charged me £69 for 30 minutes work.

Finding a good independent garage is a bit more difficult, but some members do go out of their way at bit to get work done rather than go to a main dealer.

Regards,

Peter.

I used the AA last night and the very nice man told me it was injecter 1 underfueling and injecter 2 overfueling and injecters 3 and 4 are both fine, he even showed me the deisel flow per injecter on the diagnostic machine and would have tried recoding them but the numbers on the injecters were too far down the holes to read.

Going to pull the injecters 1 and 2 later.

Yes Jimmy, you would require a laptop forgive me, I take it for granted that all and everyone has such a piece of equipment to hand simply because, I cannot remember how far back it was that didn't have one.

I have needed the laptop for work for many years Jimmy that is the reason behind me expecting everyone too have one. I do have one problem though we have just switched to Apple Mac and the difference between the operating system and that of Windows confuses me somewhat.

You can download the OBD software for free and purchase the lead from Amazon or the likes of. I've cleaned many a fault code over the years with my free software

Hi Kenny,

Can you tell me the link to download the OBD software, please, plus what i need to connect to my laptop.

I only use a MacBook Pro now although my Apple desktop in working fine after 15 years without a fault.   I got it second hand 10 years ago after having great problems with two Windows Computers.

Hope you are getting back to full health, and I am so pleased you are back here with the great assistance you give.

Regards,

Peter.
