Touch up paint.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me the best place to get touch up paint (pen or small pot) as even though I have a rear camera and sensors I still managed to reverse into a fence.Luckily there are only a couple of small marks so thought I'd ask for advice here.

Thanks Mark

hi mark welcome to the club. nice to see an ftype owner on here. go to dealers mate service dept. give your reg no or vin no they will give you a touch up pen . don't go to Halfords mate. dealer will have one in stock at the same price as Halfords. atb joe

Hi Mark,

There are several paint suppliers online but you will need your VIN number.

Halford unfortunately do not stock Jaguar paints.  If you have a local Car accessory shop, he will often have access to the name of a supplier and could probably get you the paint you need.

Regards,

Peter.

Frank gave you good advice with Halfrauds, they mix the paint for you and you can choose between an aerosol or small brush/pot style. You will need to quote your colour code which should be found on a plate fitted to the door pillar

I never knew that, Kenny.  I had a few Rovers and paint was very easy to get for them.

I will be at my local Halfords with the code next week --  even though I have only a couple of very minor chips.

Obviously a matter of opinion chaps which must be respected. I have had paint mixed at Halfrauds for about 11 years without any problems however, I also had a safe solid colour which blended very well.

yes ken fully understand   but mark has a lovely new f type  better off not taking any chances, it comes from the factory to the dealers s will be perfect. wer as Halfords as you say MAKES IT UP FOR YOU  now lets just say that little johnny that servs you that morning in the store has a stonking great hang over and makes a total balls of mixing it up. then you apply that to your new f type I for one would go round their and kill the little son of a b**** .  dealers will be cheaper to I bet

Understand what your saying Joe, my brother spent £60,000 on his F Type (Fabulous Car) I hate my brother :-) I doubt the dealer be cheaper but if you can afford to spend that type of money on a car then, are you worried about the cost of a small can of touch up paint?

Very frequently paint for cars is made by a paint manufacturer who will supply various marques of cars, as well as other outlets for the product.

The same goes for lots of other parts for cars which can also be found on the shelves of other outlets.

You may find that the paint sold by a Jaguar Main dealer has been supplied by a manufacturer and marked up by Jaguar.  Buying from the manufacturer direct is usually cheaper.

yes pete your prob right. and every one to their own. I was only trying to advise mark as the others wer to,  but mark has a beautiful f type only just turned a year old that im sure cost him a few bob. mine has only turned 2years old and I would not go to haldfords or any paint place for a touch up thingie for it not yet any way it would only be the main dealer for me as I have done in the past with a bmw I had . its down to personal choice. the main dealers prices for little things like that would prob be similar to Halfords  I am to busy to go to one and tother to do a price comparison  joe

Hi Joe,

All my life I worked in the Steel industry,  and was involved in many of the bits that go into cars.  The car manufacturers make very little of the bits that go into cars, as it is cheaper to outsource them.

I have visited most of the car plants in the UK [except Jaguar and Honda] and it is wonderful what you can glean from management and the workforce.

On buying things for the car I have a local auto accessory shop who will get me what I ask for and give best advice.  Not always the cheapest, but it doesn't cost me anything to get there, whereas into the city can cost me a fiver.

Regards,

Peter.

hi pete. yeah know what your talking about.  age&exp teaches us. I can honestly tell you I have never been in an Halfords or auto shop in my life. I have my car valeted every week. he comes to my home were I work from. other than that cars I have had its to the dealer ship. I have bought privately many times a good 2-3 year old car for lot less cost new. like my present and first jag keep them for 3 years then sell or trade in all are looked after . im a fussy bloke I work &party hard when got the chance. some would say lucky maybe right but hard work and investment has always been installed to me by my parents whom basically me and my sisters work for. but I work a 18 hour day most days 7 days a week. yes I get holidays due one in may. cant wait.  joe
