Removing XK Aerial & Hidden Replacement

Any tips on a replacement radio aerial on a 2007 XK would be welcome. Cannot find a alternative apart from a stubby or bee sting but really want it hidden (even my 2005 van has no aerial!!) thanks Paul

Hi Rick. Not a long term solution I'm afraid. Brought a 12v Amplified  internal antenna and mounted it on the parcel shelf as it didn't work when mounted out of sight. Power from the factory aerial lead and attached coaxial with a Halfords connector. Works ok but occasionally lose reception. I'm surprised that no actual solution exists. Can't be too difficult for a techno wiz. I'm not one of those!!

Will fiddle some more in summer and get the aerial removed and the hole filled and sprayed at local chips away.

Much appreciated Paul. Damn aerial is the only thing on the car I don't like. Along similar lines I was going to try a marine antenna on the basis that they have a longer range and mount that on the parcel shelf. Will let you know if that gets a better result with reception.

Cheers

Me too. It's !Removed! ugly on such a good looking car. I see this use of marine antenna has been posted on various forums before but not read how successful it had been. If you do try and it works or fails please let me know as may try myself.

Seen reference to upgrading the rear spoiler as later models alledgedly have the antenna built into this but I'm not convinced as manufacturers usually install within the rear screen defrost wires. I may be wrong.

It seems on face of it compared to other issues that arise, a simple to fix problem but no actual solution or product seem available.

Hi Paul, I bought a used Speedpack spoiler and fitted it at the weekend however the connector for the built-in antenna doesn't fit any cable so far supplied by Jaguar (I may start my own spares shop soon!) If I can resolve that connector issue there looks like a bit of a wrestle ahead to route the cable from the existing point where the old antenna is through the tailgate to the spoiler. I will buy a box of clips ahead of that as from past experience they couldn't be more fiddly and likely to break.

Will let you know how that goes.

I am removing the old antenna anyway (its already disconnected) and the car is booked into Chris Gregory's car finishing shop in Knaresborough in May to have the wing filled and painted.

BTW, I did fit a marine antenna and hid it in the rear of the roof lining. Radio 1 and 2 work OK, Radio 4 hit and miss. Some local stations are OK, AM is non-existent.

Cheers for now
Rick

Hi Kevin, at a guess eBay would be a good bet for buying one. It is really simple to remove the old one and replace it with the very basic of tools it takes less than 20 minutes so even at garage rates it is not a big job.
Hope you find it.
Rick

I see this topic is several years old now yet still no solution exists ! I had a 1997 XK8 and also a 2000 XKR Silverstone and the horrible Ariel always bugged me to the point I only played CD’s ! I’m about to get Into a 2006 XKR Stratstone Final edition and blow me the ariel Is still there ! Surely there must be a solution now !
