Is this sign of flat battery?

It could be, Phil.

The s type needs a good battery to work all the electrical bits, and when it is failing it starts to do funny things . I would give it a charge and then see if it holds it.

A battery should last about 5 years.

Peter.

It's a Jaguar battery that's on, don't know how old it is?

Just tried to take battery out but the bolt that is vertical at left side of battery won't seem to unscrew don't want to force it, also read when battery disconnected handbrake needs resetting, anti trap on windows need resetting. Can't find how to do in handbook, it says section 4 for handbrake and section 3 for windows but can't see anything relating to this. Anyway can't get battery out anyway

Hi Phil,

To reset the handbrake after disconnecting the battery, you must also know the radio code.

When you have reconnected the battery the alarm will come on and you have to press on the footbrake after switching off the alarm.

You don't always have to reset the windows but you always have to reset the radio.

Setting the anti-trap, if required Phil consists of closing each window in turn and holding the button in the close position for about 2 seconds once fully closed.

Once you get your bolt out, a little smear of copper grease will assist in preventing corrosion should you need to remove it again.

Hi Phil,

When the battery has been disconnected you will need to reset.

Fully close the window and hold the switch in the closed position  for two seconds and then release. Wait for two seconds and do not open the window.

Again select the same window to close, holding the switch for a further two seconds.

Check to confirm the operation by opening the window and then use the one touch operation to come the window.

Repeat the operation for all the other windows.

Regards,

Peter.

The motor drive has a torque sensor Phil. It detects the change in voltage demand from the motor depending upon how much force is required to move the window glass. That's why the window will sometimes stop and reverse when there isn't anything in the way, if the window track is obstructed or the flexibility of the runner lining is reduced say, during cold weather,

PLEASE, don't test with your fingers. I'd use a piece of plastic or wood... just in case.

I know, best of it is it's been a well looked after car with past owner. Loads and loads of receipts for anything that needed doing ect. Never mind I'm sure I'll be able to sit back soon and enjoy it.

A question in relation to this topic......with a full Jag service history, if the battery required changing, would the dealer replace it with a "Jaguar" labelled battery?

I ask this because I recently had to replace my battery and the old one was labelled "Jaguar" with no other maker's label to be seen.

Oh and yes, the bracket bolt was a pig.
