Urgent Help! 2.0 Diesel X-Type.

Hi, just after a bit of quick assistant!

Was just driving along at about 30mph, at about 2-3k revs. When the car lost all power, so I've pulled over to the middle of the road to try and get in to the petrol station when the car has completely died.

The battery light came on initially when the power went.

I've tried jumping it over with no success, and I have had to be towed home. Any ideas?

Also, the car does turn over, it just won't start.

Just been trying to start the car. There seems to be no fuel getting to the injectors or through the fuel pump. We've got the fuel up there, but it still won't start and the fuel doesn't stay.

Could it be the filter or pump that are faulty? The fuel cut off switch is pushed in.

Would it be anything to do with the immobiliser at all?

Hi Benj,

Loss of power could be the coil pack - but that is a guess.

It could also be that the fuel system is a bit mucky.  Try a quick fix --  there is an engine cleaner addictive from Wynns --  Halfords stock it.  A Terraclean service might also do the trick.

Let us know how you get on.

Regards

Peter.

Hi Ben

You said no fuel getting to your injectors or the Pump and then you said you got some but it didnt stay .???

I would say its the pump because the pump valves are letting the fuel return and not holding the preasure ,

Saying that a pipe or a fuel filter between the pump and the pump can have the same effect.???

so check filter and pipes first ----.hope this helps .???

We can get the fuel up with a priming pump, but it won't go any further towards the injectors now. Is it possible there could be an airlock? Or could it even be a sensor?

I'm pretty stuck to be honest!

Hi Ben

If you run out of fuel or for any reason fuel stops you neary always have to bleed

the injetors ===Just get someone to turn the engine on the key and at the same

time loosen the pipes on the injector untill there's a consant squirt and then tighten again

and if thats the problem that cylinder will fire.???

Hi Frank,

Been trying that already, still doesn't make it through that far. Going to try and bleed the fuel line and see if that works!

Any other ideas? At a lost cause at the moment!

So basically... The fuel is only going through the pump in very small amounts, and sometimes not at all. The pump manages to draw the fuel in from the priming pump, but not out of the other side to the injectors.

Would the most likely thing be that the pump is knackered, or could it be the metering valve?

Hi Ben

Pehaps this is silly but have you changed the small fuel filter thats located by the

front right-hand coner of the fuel tank ---its no good blowing it out because to

be sure you need a new one ---that would give you this problem if it was partly

blocked .????

I haven't changed it no? Where abouts is it? The fuel only seems to have trouble getting from the pump to the injectors. I thought it would be the pump or potentially the sensor?

Hi Benj, i'm not sure if this helps you or not but in the past I've had crankshaft sensor issues on a petrol corsa and a hyundai elantra diesel both cut out ( the Hyundai on motorway ) but would restart after a certain amount of time,The hyundai would turn over but seemed like it wasn't getting any fuel but a few hours later started but only ran for around 10 minutes,I had the RAC out and they suggested it could be the air and fuel filters that needed replacing but after I gambled (remembered the corsa problem) and changed the sensor it ran straight away with no further issues.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi guys! Cheers for the reply Des. It did turn out that it was the Camshaft Sensor. An £18 fix to what could have potentially been a very expensive bill is a huge relief!

Thanks for the help.
