Possible retro-fit

OK, call me mad if you like, but I'm now considering the possibility of fitting adaptive cruise control to The Princess.

She already has the standard cruise control.

Please can anybody offer any advice / pointers?

Clearly, I need to do some research but I was hoping for an initial impetus from the Club :D

HI PAUL

I'd be interested in this

as far as i can see, you would need

forward alert switch

adaptive switches steering wheel

front radar sensor

control unit

abs unit/ possible servo/master cylinder

a donor car would be ideal,

and then setting up on IDS/SDD

have you seen a donor car paul

cheers

joe

There's the rub Joe. Very few cars had it fitted as an option and even fewer of those were for the UK market.

Setting it up in SDD seems simple enough though. I haven't even found any evidence of pre-installed wiring loom.

I've seen that review before Joe, and I've also seen positive reviews as well.

Russ, it's not the use of the device which intrigues me rather than whether or not it can be done

It's a long way off at the moment though,, unless we fall upon a donor car.

Well, in that case Paul, all strength to you and the very best of luck! A bit like climbing a mountain 'because it's there' etc, ha ha, well done .

BTW, I'm looking to do a partial retro fit of the premium sound system, to include the rear parcel shelf and amp, plus I'll upgrade the head unit and door speakers using non standard parts. I couldn't find a cartridge for my CDC, but got a complete original Jaguar Clarion CDC for £29 on eBay, so I'll fit that up shortly...

What sort of head unit Russ? Please bear in mind that the amp is controlled by the D2B network from the OEM touchscreen.

I have a spare cartridge for the CDC if it's of any use. Does the CDC you've bought have D2B connection?

Hi Paul, thanks for the offer, but the Clarion I have installed is different to the cartridge you have (we went through that about a year ago!). As mine is a pre-facelift X200, it doesn't have the touchscreen, so it's just a double DIN head unit. I've done quite a bit of ICE before and would hope there is an aux out from the new head unit designed for an aux amp. I think Premium Sound was an option on the X200, so I'm hoping it has the wiring in place already, or something I can adapt, although this is a project is probably for next year as I have some mechanical and bodywork improvements I'm making prior to that .

We retrofitted Premium sound in Denis's early model S-Type Russ.

Believe it or not, the easiest way to install the mid-range amp and speakers is to replace the whole dashboard. Oddly enough, the twin speaker units we fitted sounded a lot worse than the originals.

I'm not doing the dashboard speakers, just the parcel shelf and amp, plus upgrade to head unit and door speakers. I admire you for going to this trouble and if being installed in a new car I can see if being worthwhile, but a lot of work for a retrofit .
