Stereo woes.

I picked up my X Type today. And I love it.

My six year old daughter said it sounds like it's growling because it's hungry when I hit the pedal.

It's a very nice place to sit indeed.

It has the poverty spec air con. No funky LCD climate control for me. Just big chunky knobs. And I'm totally fine with that. I'm coming from a Freelander after all.

It also has a cassette deck up front and a CD changer in the boot.

However, when I load the changer it comes up on disk 4 track 10 for a few seconds then says no cd. I've tried single disks in each of the drawers etc but it's not going to be my friend.

So I now have the perfect excuse to put something a bit more modern in there.

And this is my woe. I've read in a lot of different places that there's an air con pipe in just the wrong place to accept a regular sized double din head unit.

Before I start ripping the car to bits. And I have had a good look online, but my Google fu is lacking this evening.

Is there a shallow mech less double din that doesn't cost a fortune that would just slot in (with an adapter for fascia/iso/aerial)?

Thanks for any help.

Al

I had the same problem. After a lot of faffing about, I got a CD disc cleaner kit and cleaned the laser head in the CD changer in the boot with an ear bud and Cd liquid cleaner.

Worked a treat and since then I haven't had a problem with the CD changer. It works fine!

Hi think I have read on here that some double din units are to deep to fit,on my second xtype and replaced the fitted unit am thinking of fitting this in new car but this car has steering wheel mounted controls so need to find a unit compatible, think it took about 30 mins to fit and quicker to take out ,make sure you get the right colour facia adaptor as I got grey when I needed black which is ok as this one has the grey,

Sorry to be so late with a reply, but I had the same problem until I took the changer out, stripped the case off it, carefully cleaned it out and put some v small amounts (a smear) of thin Oil on the working parts. Put it back together, re-fitted it and it hasn't missed a beat since. Before that, I'd had a disc jam in the changer and the read out kept telling me that a fault had occurred, or no disc! really annoying.

It is well worth sitting at the kitchen table with a set of tiny screw drivers and a camera to recall your last move. The changers aren't as tricky as you might think.
