Hi Everyone

I am the owner of a 2012 jag xf premium luxury which I have had since new, yesterday the ns front indicator packed up ,since the main dealer in Welwyn is just down the A1 I popped in hoping all would be sorted out, not so apparently I was told I would need a complete headlight unit ,indicators are built in and are non servicible!!! quoted fitted cost over £1000!! .As the car is only out of warranty by 6 months and quoting sections of the consumer act they are taking it up with Jaguay direct.Hoping to hear outcome next week in the meantime it's hand signals!!

Anyone else had a similar experience.

Hi Graham,

I just can't get my head round you having to change the whole unit for a Bulb !! You obviously have the upgraded unit, I have the 2011 premium with original headlights and Bulb changes are no problem.

I personally have no faith in anything Jaguar say a second oppinion is def recommended,my daughter had a similar experience with her golf when the door mirror indicator Bulb blew she was told she needed a hole unit at well over £100, from main dealer, local garage changed it for less then £10.

If it turns out that the whole unit does need replaced you can pick them up on eBay for around £150. Hope the os isn't ready to go as well, good luck.

Regards Dave.

Never heard of a complete headlight assembly containing numerous lamps whereupon you cannot change a lamp separately. I can remember the sealed beam units however, these did not contain numerous lamps such as headlamp, side lamp, indicator etc

Thanks Frank and to those who responded, seems mine being the facelift model incorporates non serviceable LEDs ,from what I have researched they should last the life of the car ,EU legislation gives a minimum of 6000 hrs ,that's a lot of left turns about 16 years!!

Will be banging on the door of my main dealer in Hertfordshire tomorrow for an explanation.will keep you updated .

Regards

Graham

Hi

After having been told I needed a new headlight 2 days later it sparked back into life ,no idea how ,jag dealer is still looking into it.

Just hope it is not one of those irritating intermittent problems . anyway at least for the moment I've saved £1000!!

Thanks guys for all your support.

Hi Graham,

Interesting snippit about EU legislation. My rear offside turn indicator (XF 20,000 miles, 2012 reg) stopped working a few days ago. As it`s a LED unit and the dealer can not find a fault they say to replace the entire unit and a replacement is around £400.Could you point me in the direction of the source for that EU legislation please.

Regards, Mario

Hi Mario

My research led me to EU no 1194/2012 implementing directive 2009/125/EC annex IV table 9 which suggests a life of 6000 hours at least 15 years worth of indicating !! Another site worth looking at is www.quora.com what is the lifespan of led car lights. I'm sure there are small electronic companies able to repair these units, shame we seem to be a throw away society. Returning to my experience after driving back from my dealer the next day they started working again and to date they have been fine I can only assume a loose connection surprised jag couldn't find it ! Will be interested to hear how you get on,good luck.

I have had the same problem with my 2012 Premium.  I bought it second hand in December 15 with 27k on it but it is obviously outside of its warranty.   My rear NS indicator with flash rapidly on the dash and if you look at it from the outside then it will be flashing rapidly and eventually stop.  Once the fault occurs it will remain for the length of your journey but if you leave the car for a few hours then the fault will dissappear, sometimes for a few days, sometime for a few weeks.

I am going to take the unit off today at some point (weather permitting) and try to clean the contacts to see if that is the cause.  Dint really want to be spending the money for a whole new unit.

I know this is an old post about 4 years old. My front NS indicator stopped working with the rest flashing double speed for the 3rd time since I've had the car with all the rain we are having right now. The last two times the problem cleared itself with a some time and parking the car with the front facing into the sun. This is a damp problem.

This evening I cleared the problem immediately simply by disconnecting the electrical connector from the back of the headlight unit and spraying the plug and socket with WD40, wiping out the excess and reconnecting. Problem is solved without having to pay £600 to £1200 for a new headlight unit. I hope this is a solution that will continue to work in future if the problem happens again.

Hi , can you let me know the outcome of what happened as I am now experiencing that exact same issue in my Jaguar xf s luxury premium 2013, did you need to replace the whole tail light unit as this is what I have been told as you apparently can't buy indicator bulbs..

They are a sealed unit containing the LED's.

I had this problem on my XF luxury and yes after messing around, cleaning this a that as advised by different sources, I had it replaced. It was done under warranty by the dealer I bought it from.
