Hi Stephen,

Petrol or diesel?

If it is the diesel it could be the EGR valves getting sticky and not opening.

I sometimes get that on my S Type [Code P0402].

A good blast sometimes years it and failing that I use a can of Wynns Diesel EGR cleaner.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Stephen,

The amber light is a warning that something needs attention.  You really need an OBD2 Scanner to find out what is the problem.  My s type handbook says it might go into limp mode, but if it hasn't done that you just drive with caution, as the handbook says.

A main dealer will plug it in to the diagnostic system, but will charge you about £70 for the time on their diagnostic kit.

What part of Staffordshire are you in, as there is a Mobile mechanic in the South of the County--  Look him up on his website  -----

James Price  ---- and he might be able to help.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Steve,

James will get back to you.  He has probably been on holiday, as he is a quite young man with a young family, and usually go on holiday during the school holidays.

It is useful to have his number, though.

Peter.

  • 4 weeks later...

I have a Daimler super 8 2007 and have exactly the same issue. The engine light has been plaguing me for about a year on and off and finally now I have been dealing with David Marks - He really knows his stuff.

He is a little baffled at present but I am sure he will get to the root of the problem soon.

He has thus far dealt with a number of the earth points which were suspected to be the problem - Sadly not so. On my second visit he will deal with the remaining earth points plus I have asked him to have the car given the teraclean treatment, The car has been driven very short distances over its 8 year life and I suspect the engine and exhausts need a good clear out which could be responsible for the engine light popping up.

I will know more y next week.

I have a second issue which is particularly odd in that from time to time the car has a senior moment and all the warning lights and wording come on at once ending by the car saying the park brake is not functioning. Whilst driving the lights stay on and the speedo goes off as well as the temp gauge drops off whilst the red light coms on.

Also the air con goes off and he radio etc fails. This has also been put down to a dodgy earth point by david Marks.

Time will tell.

Sorry haven't logged on in a while, got heater matrix changed and all good, the eml was a lambada sensor which was changed. All good.

now just as my 30 days guarante runs out I get a park brake fault, but everything works as it should ?  Just a pain driving with the amber light on and message in dash
