Looking to become a Jag owner

Hi guys, been looking for a jag X type. My dad has had his 56 plate sport premium for two years now.

ive only been to look at one, in Tipton, I really like it and it has everything I'm after. I'm not sure if it's a it suspect though. I arranged to look at it last Sunday at short notice, when I arrived the bloke who I spoke to wasn't working that day and the other guys didn't know I was coming. It was well jammed in their Car park and didn't have an MOT so I just listen to it start up and had a quick look over it. I stupidly put a deposit on it so they could mot it and have it ready for me today. Now they said it failed with a Oil leak and it's going to a specialist.

Any advise.

Hi Luke,

The advertised price seems about OK for an X type with that mileage.  The question I would ask is about the service history and previous owners.

Is the car clean and the bodywork nice and straight would be the next question.

Whether you could walk away from the car without losing your deposit could be an issue.

I checked out Lion Motors and it appears that they are quite a recently formed company, about a year, with only 1 Director.

Let us know the result of the specialist's report, and if you could make a decision then.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Paul

You have a cooling off period, which I believe is 14 days, see link below, in your case I would wait to see what the MOT states, as it appears the dealer is making an effort to make the goods 'Fit for purpose' in one of the pictures, I see a building in the background mentioning MOT! is this the same company as the dealer your buying the car off? my advice would be caution! they may well be straight up guys, and who knows the car may sail through the MOT without any scary advisories

hope this helps

Steve

Thank you for the fast replays Peter, David and Alan

The dealer was supposed to ring me back at lunch, which he didn't, so I rang him at 1400. He said the car failed with a very bad Oil leak and he will ring me back in ten minutes, which he didn't, so I've asked for a refund on my deposit, which he agreed too.

So im back on the lookout. 👍🏼👍🏼

Try Evans Halshaw, Luke.  They will bring the car to one of their premises near you, and I am certain there will be one to suit.

Peter.

Hi Paul,

All great advice from the guy's and you prob saved yourself a lot of heartache in the long run, patience is the key. It took me 3 months to find mine and she is a beauty, low miler, ex Jag employee car that wanted for nothing, glad I kept looking even though I was keen as mustard to get another one, nothing's guaranteed in this life but cutting the risk down is the way I like to go.

Good luck

Andrew
