Hi again,

This issue with heating/aircon is still a problem. I'm getting no cold/cool air from the vents at all. Even set to 17.5c its warm air. When Lo is selected and auto kicks in it blasts out hot air!

HELP!! Any suggestions folks

Many thanks

Bill

PS less of an issue, the CD changer doesnt work........ what should I check?

Thanks Steve, a friend mentioned this too, he also suggested poosible issues, air con filters. is this the same as cabin or pollen filters? Is it a good idea to buy filter pack on line and have mechanic fit them, or would they not be genuine Jaguar parts?

Thanks for taking the time to reply, I'm loving this forum, good feeling to be 'part of' apart from concern over heating I'm loving my Cat!

Best regards

Bill

Hi Bill

Wish I could advise more, but I have practically zero knowledge of the AC system, other than the cost to replace an AC pump :wallbash: Ouch!

There are very knowledgeable guys on here, who will have done that work, or can offer advice, I'm sure someone will contribute soon

I will watch on in interest

Steve

Hi Bill,

Like Steve AC issues are in a different world than the one in which I live.

I had a lot of heat coming from my AC when I first got my s type, but It would settle down after a while.  Regassing cured it, and now it behaves.

Regards,

Peter.

hi

usually if you cant get cold air it the heater valve

if that valve does not shut properly, then you will never get cold air even with air con on

the heater valve is a common problem on the s-types, if you getting hot water though to the heater matrix, then i would say it heater valve

because when set to a low temp the heater valve should shut completely

there a couple of different types and prices vary to model

cheers

Hi thanks all for your help. I'm still no further forward. I looked under bonnet today, dangerous, I know zero about engines. I asserted that water in Coolent tank was very hot as were pipes around it. I could not get filter cover off, large rectangular filter on right side of engine. Also the water in tank was clear, cover said use orange coloured liquid?

any more thoughts? I may take it to garage next week when I'm home again, but would rather go with a semblance of knowledge.

thanks in anticipation

Bill

Are you sure it said "Use Orange coloured liquid" ?? My guess is that would be antifreeze, I think you would have noticed very early on that you had no Antifreeze! I will stand corrected, but I'm pretty sure the liquid in the header tank should have some colour to it.

here's another punt that the guy's can answer 'Thermostat' maybe?

Hi Bill,

WSS M97B44 - coloured orange is coolant [antifreeze] to use.

Sometimes it come ready diluted but mostly comes undiluted and you mix it 50 50 with distilled water.  It is always worth a weekly check when the engine is cold.

The air filter come off quite easily once you have mastered the art, as it were.  There are two retaining clips on the right hand side of the rectangular box [on the diesel] and you just need to unclip them.  They might be stiff.

Good luck,

Peter.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks Peter, Im putting the car into a local garage soon for a general service, they mentioned re gassing, i noticed in a journey the other day when I had been driving for an hor or so the dashboard around the cockpit was very warm, eg the plastic in front of dials and around the centre console. I'm hoping this is not an expensive fix!!

Thanks for taking time to help

best regards,

Bill

Hi Bill,

probably less competition over there.

When I was in Ireland last year, both my brake light bulbs failed.  In the UK a brake light Bulb costs about £3.50  but just around the corner from where we were staying near Galway, there was a Tyre fitting garage.  They had bulbs and the tyre fit obligingly fitted then. It would have cost me about £15 over here to have them both fitted- the fitter charged me 5 euros  --- I gave him 10 euros!  Prices seem to be swings and roundabouts.

Regards,

Peter.
