New windscreen

Hi everyone. I have a 20cm crack in my windscreen, going from top to bottom on the drivers side. I contacted Autoglass for a quote & they sent this reply: " Is the windscreen heated where the wipers come to rest? If no, is the windscreen heated? If no, do you have a rear view mirror attached to the windscreen or a fitting for one?"

How would I know if it's heated where the wipers come to rest or if the windscreen's heated? I can obviously see that the rear view mirror is attached to the windscreen, but the heated windscreen...
I need to get this right, or I could be opening a big can of worms!

I contacted Jaguar, when I bought the car 6 months ago & they told me that there were no added extras on my car. Was the heated wiper/ windscreen an added extra option or were they standard on all S-Types in 2003?

I appreciate any help that you can give to me.

You can normally see the element in good light if you look closely. Little fine wires from top to bottom in the glass. You have a newer car than mine so I'm unsure how you know by switching it on/off as mine has a button in the console but I'm guessing yours won't be the same. Somebody with more knowledge than me should be able to help with that.

Hi Andy

I have the same year as you, and I don't have a heated front screen, I'm pretty sure they were optional, I am presuming you don't have the satnav, if you do I don't know where the button would be. image from JaguarClimateControl.com

Hope this helps

I have the list of all optional extras fitted and not fitted  --  I don't have a breakdown warning sign,  a cigar lighter, a first aid kit, an immersion heater, a rear spoiler, ski stowage, a style pack, and voice activated modules and voice activated controls  ---  all of which I can mange without!

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Peter

Breakdown warning sign, Nor me, first aid kit, an immersion heater Nor me, a style pack (don't know what that is?) and voice activated modules and voice activated controls, Nor me. Don't have heated seats, don't have memory seats, don't have lumbar support adjustment, don't have Satnav, don't have Jaguar voice (which is probably the same thing as voice activated controls :wallbash:) and probably a few other things I don't have

I do have the spoiler, and Ski bag / pack, (might come in handy if I ever need short lengths of timber from B&Q ) folding mirrors, Electrochromatic rear view, and of course I do have a very nice Jaguar

Regards

Steve

Hi Steve,  your S being a limited edition you would think it would be loaded with the extras!

Thanks for this Steve. I now know that I don't have a heated front screen. (or sat nav!) :yahoo: I just need to find out if the windscreen is heated where the wipers come to rest now. I don't know whether this would be automatic or via a manual switch.

Hi Andy

i would think without a heated front screen option being fitted, there is no means or any other method of heating it, other than your normal defrost / heater blower. The guys will correct me of course if I'm wrong.

i would think it quite safe to get your screen replaced without any concerns. I'm pretty sure my screen has the heating filaments built in, but clearly not connected up.

Steve

Hi Steve,

My S Type is the first car I have had wth an electrically heated windscreen.

On my 1962 Triumph Herald a demister was an optional extra and not fitted, and so a cloth and the quarter light open was the only way to keep the windscreen clear when driving.  Car heaters were also optional extras, and a warm coat, scarf, gloves and cap were necessary in the winter.  I still use my 1964 model Sheepskin Jacket!

Regards,

Peter.

Good memories Peter,

thankfully, things have moved on from those days, a little to much for me, with all the modern tech that's for sure, what ever happened to a socket set, spanners, and some feeler gauges to get things done

Regards

Steve

Hi Andy,

Is it not covered by your car insurance?

Peter.
