MOT fail!

I suppose every cloud has a silver lining though?, she failed on a siezed brake calliper O/S/R it had no meat left on the outside pad, and had the metal just starting to rub the disc, very lucky nothing more damaged.

The silver lining? I watched him (the mechanic) he was very thorough, She sailed through everything else, I was a little concerned about the emissions test as I was not convinced I had sealed the exhaust joints correctly after putting on the sports boxes, however the test results were very, very good, the mechanic said the readings were something he would expect to see from a car of 1 - 2 years old with about 20k on the clock! So overall chuffed

Anyway she's hopefully getting the necessary done tomorrow or Saturday, the second part of the silver lining? the garage I took her too, last year did some work for me (replaced the AC pump) but the driver who collected her damaged the front (very slightly) which I never chased up, however today I reminded the owner of the garage, so should get something off the cost of repairs as well

My car has just got back from its MOT which it sailed through.

However, my mechanic found a water leak  --  not getting into the engine, though.  It will be sorted out on Tuesday, though.

Good news Peter

im presuming just something minor then?

Had a call this morning from the garage, she has now passed the MOT they managed to free the calliper rather than the need to replace, new pads of course so cost me £40 all in (just the MOT) Happy days, will collect her tomorrow.

Just on a separate note, only early days, but might of found a decent Indy, not the best of starts but, I like the setup they have, and the owner had no quibbles about working out a deal

Hi Steve,

The biggest cost could well be labour, as locating the leak will probably take some time. S type water pumps for the diesel are not expensive -- under £50, -- which is not bad.  If it is that, it could be sourced quickly.

But the engine is a big lump and it takes time to find where the coolant is coming from.

We are going to visit our daughter in Brockley on Friday for the weekend, so I don't want an overheating problem in the Blackwall Tunnell!

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Peter

apolgies for delay in response (doing some digging in the garden!) hopefully they find the leak quickly for you, and it's a simple fix.

just have to mention, Brockley is not a million miles from me! Unless there's another one that uses the Blackwall?

Regards

Steve

That's the one, Steve.

I usually try to miss the rush hour when we go there.

I have every confidence in Carl, my mechanic, who altered some jobs so he could fit my car in before the weekend.

Regards,

Peter.

Peter and Steve it looks like your both keeping your cars well looked after so good work! I just sold my 1st 3.0 S-Type to a breaker for a hefty loss for severe corrosion underneath. A second mechanic gave me an in depth breakdown as to why....the car had been jacked up in the wrong place previously and it had basically punched holes in the underside of the car. Water then got into places it would never of done had this error not been made. No record of this on previous MOT's either or previous services. Its not about the money but is sad to see a mechanically sound car is now being broken into pieces because of neglect.

Hi Steve,

Just after I retired, and after 30 years of company cars, I bought a Rover 825 Sterling that was only 8 months old.  Part of the deal was that the first full service would be at no cost to me. But when I found out that the future cost at at the local main dealer who I had done business with for 17 years would be £325 + VAT, I started putting away a few shillings every week.

Then, in 2002, just a few months before a service was due I had a flyer put on my car window  --  A Rover Trained Mechanic was setting up his own business and would be less expensive than the main dealer.  I rang him, and he gave the car a full service for £75.  He has been looking after my cars ever since. He picked up my car from our house yesterday at 7.00 am, and brought it back after a full service and MOT at 11.15 with cost being £135.

A great find!

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Peter

He's welcome to put a flyer on my car window anytime  strangely enough just been speaking to my 'caravan' neighbour who asked were my car was, anyhow long story short, he offered to take me this morning to collect her, will save about £20 in cab fares, he then told me of a garage he's been using for about 30 years, which is so much closer than the one that has the car now, so may try that one next time, why I didn't ask him before, I don't know?  :wallbash:

Hi Brandon

That is such a crying shame, just a bit of carelessness has taken a fantastic car off the roads. I trust your current car gives you great enjoyment.

Regards

Steve

Got her back, clean bill of health, and no advisories :yahoo:

attached is the emissions results, if you look at CO level compared to the pass level, excellent! HC (which I presume means hydrocarbons?) 5 when the pass level is acceptable up to 200! As the mechanic said a very good, efficient engine not sure what Lambda is?
