Key Fob and central locking

My S-Type is parked in full sunlight at the moment since about 9am and the key fob has decided to stop working, not sure if these 2 facts are related? This is more of a problem than it should be as the central locking is playing up and when the speed locking activates, the door buttons don't deactivate the locks. So I've been having to release myself and any passengers, by removing the key from the ignition and unlocking with the fob. If the fob is now not working I could end up having to climb out of a window, which is not terribly dignified!

I put a new battery in it recently, so it shouldn't be this, and I tried another CR2032 from another fob just in case, and it seems completely dead, any ideas?

Russ,

Firstly, have you tried the door lock / unlock switch in the centre console?

Secondly, it seems as though your key fob has lost connection to your car's security system, unless, of course, both CR2032 batteries are completely dead?

Keyfob can be linked to the car simply enough if you have access to the diagnostic software. However, I believe that there is another way of doing so which doesn't need software but I can't find any definitive reference.

My 2001 doesn't have the centre console switch, just the ones on the doors. I'm going to have the door panel off and check that's all lubed and connected, then at least I can get out once in! If that doesn't sort the fob, I'll check it with the spare, which my father in law has to further isolate what exactly is the issue!

BTW Paul, have you checked out my leaper? Finally got around to fitting it and it's brilliant, should've done it sooner .

The X200 has the holes under the badge for it to fit to so quite a simple process, if a lengthy amount of polishing to get the badge glue off and as shiny as the rest of the bonnet!

Hi Russ have you tried a reset -I know this is for the X Type but surely its about the same.???

Programming or pairing a new remote key fob for the X Type is a very simple job that will cost a substantial
amount if it is done by Jaguar. It's annoying but this may need to be done if your key fob battery has been
allowed to go flat, or the car battery has been removed for any length of time.
Follow these steps exactly and you should have no problems, pairing old or replacement key fobs for your car.

1.)I would recommended that you ensure all key fobs are fitted with new batteries. ( Click here to see battery
 replacement guide).
2.)Get in the car and close the drivers side door.
3.)Put the key into the ignition and turn to position I.
4.)Wait 5 seconds
5.)Turn the key quickly to position II then back to I four times. (do this only once)
6.)You should hear a single chime.
7.)Remove the Key
8.)For each Key fob in rapid succession. Press any single button on the key fob you wish to pair, you should
hear a chime as each Key fob is paired with the security system. After the chime press a button on the next
Key fob you wish to pair.
9.)On compleation after all keys have been programed, wait 3 minutes then check the operation of each Key
 fob by locking/unlocking the vehicle.

Important Note :-All the fobs that you wish to use Must be paired at the same time. Every time you operate
the key as in step 5 above the code will be changed, previously programmed fobs will no longer work unless
you pair them all at the same time.

Thanks guys, super proud of her despite these niggles driving me nuts! She's a rolling restoration that will be largely finished by the end of the year. I'm just about to have the door panel off and see what can be done. Providing I can let myself out, I'll drive to pick up the spare key!

Just to wrap this up, I had the door panel off on Friday, lubed all the moving parts and electrics which seemed to be working fine. So after some preventive Waxoly in the cavity, reassembled and drove home. Unfortunately it didn't sort it, so took her into a local independent on Monday, who confirmed that she should unlock on the buttons or when the key is removed, which she didn't. After 10 mins on their diagnostics it was reprogrammed not to engage the speed lock automatically. This suits me perfectly, I can lock and unlock on the door button if required, I just don't get shut in against my will. The issue with fob has not returned, so just a temporary blip thankfully

Mine did this yesterday. I had to lock with key.after two hours tried again and it worked. It had been parked in full sun for a couple of hours. Interesting.

Interesting as you say! Not such an issue for me now I don't need to use the fob to get out. I opened mine on the key and drove her into the hangar, after which the fob worked again after being under cover a short while...
