Little air to face or windscreen

My 2009 X Type seems to have some climate issues. It does the usual steaming up, but lots of posts here and elsewhere say it's designed to have the air con on full time. However, if I choose face/feet or windscreen/feet, almost everything goes to the feet. There's very little difference in power to when I just choose feet.

I've seen posts about problems with the S Type climate control, some of it looks quick tricky to fix. The useless dealer in Canterbury said it was fine when I asked them to check last year when it had a major service, but they also said the plumes of exhaust smoke and boot struts that couldn't lift an ant were fine. I sorted the smoke and struts myself but dpes anyone had help or advice for the dodgy ventilation?

Thanks in advance, happy motoring.

Hi Peter,

Are the settings OK?.   The air con is recommended to be on all the time but on the S type if you set it to demist the air con switches off.  The same happens when you change the fan speed.

I  put the settings on auto and do not disturb it as it might seek revenge!

Regards

Peter.

Thanks Peter.

Settings are OK. If you use auto, it just pours air from the face vents and nothing else, seems to be a design flaw. I tend to turn auto off but often have the aircon on, to keep cool or avoid misting up. Trouble is, on a really hot day I want cool face and feet but I just get feet, and if it's badly misted almost nothing comes out the windscreen vents no matter what `you do with air con, recycle, demist etc.

Hi, I've got a 58 reg and have similar issues. If I hit the DEF button the aircon pours out plenty of air through the windscreen vents. As soon as you go to AUTO or the windscreen/feet option barely a trickle comes out of the windscreen vents. DEF seems to be the only option on mine that will demist the windscreen.

Thanks Jonathan, just another flaw in the X Type. Had enough of them, never had a car that needed so much TLC for so little reward (Mondeo Mk3 drives better even though Jag spent a fortune to improve it!), other than the thrill and pride of that Jag badge. Poor fit and finish outside, endless trim rattles inside, diesel engine is a endlessly frustrating with a need for EGR cleaning / treatments every 4/5,000 miles (2-3 mths driving) to avoid smoke, rattles, vibration and poor MPG, despite running on quality fuel), climate system not a patch of my old Juke's, clutch failed, springs failed, little climate control fan just packed up, on and off driver's door not opening using the interior handle, sun roof jams, leather cracking despite Jag treatment......far too many others to mention. Just fed up of owing a car that should be great, looks great but fails to deliver.....and does that with a constant need for DIY fixes and maintenance.

Bye bye X Type and X Type forum.

That's a shame Peter , but i know how you feel . My x type has needed a few bits and bobs doing ( nothing major ) and i am very happy with it overall . My car drives fantastic , very smooth and responsive with no rattles from inside or outside . On the other side of the coin i have had cars that i have had problem after problem with and you get to a point where it grinds you down and you think enough is enough it's going . My point is that you get good and bad in any make of car and a lot depends on how previous owners have looked after them and just down to bad luck . Sometimes once you get one problem then several more appear if your unlucky .My Jag is a second car as it's a 3.0 L petrol but iv'e had lots of problems in the past with diesel cars with egr and dpf problems .  I hope your next car is trouble free.

Regards,

Andy.
