Jaguar winter protection

Recommended Posts

The time has came to get our stype ready for the winter, an essential part of maintaining your paintwork and ensuring you try you best to stop salt from corroding your bodywork.

I am a professional detailer by trade so it is something I carry out year after year,  we know s-types and X-type have a thing for rusty arches but we have a clean example and I'm trying to keep it that way, il be using collinite 845 insulator wax to coat the paintwork in to give it a good winter proof coating to help protect the bodywork.

stages il be carrying out,

snow foam and citrus pre wash, deep wheel cleanse, full two bucket wash, de-tar, clay the vehicle, cleanse the paintwork with a d.a polisher and cleansing polish, give the vehicle two coats of wax, clean the glass and apply a sealant to giv a hydrophobic coating, wax the wheels and dress the tyres. Finally top off with a good quick detailing spray.

then we will have a nice protected jag :)

anyone else do a winter protection on there Jaguar?

Hello jack,

Welcome to the forum.

Yes, I do and I really enjoy having a clean car with nice corrected paint.

First job for winter protection was to check underneath and top up where necessary with various Dinitrol products.

Took wheels off and washed them, removed arch liners, washed the car (BriteMax) double bucket, applied fallout cleaner (Korrosol), rinsed wheels and car, followed with a light claying (Auto Finesse), cleaner polish (Menzema) with a da, wipe with weak ipa solution, rinse, 2 coats of Bilt Hamber double speed wax, clean and protect rubber and plastic trim (Bouncers), clean glass (AG), clay and seal wheels (planet polish) dress tyres. ( hate doing wheels). Detailing spray (Bouncers Done and Dusted), for a bit of paint pop.

Nice to hear that someone likes to keep on top of there pride and joy too, it's nice to be involved with people who love jags as much as I do. I was looking through some old pics of our old stype sport plus and found some pics from when I corrected that and applied 3 coats of dodo juice supernatural,

ive just broken my ankle last week so it will be a few weeks before I get to do anything haha, feel free to check me out, jack Fletcher exclusive detailing,

last week heel I had the great pleasure of carrying out an enhancement detail on a very very famous footballers Ferrari 360!

Sorry to hear you've broken your ankle buddy, that's going to slow you down a bit. I'm liking the pictures of your old Jag with its shinny paintwork, very nice job you did there.

In your previous post you mentioned using a glass sealant. I've not used one before and was thinking of getting some Gtechniq - G1 ClearVision Smart Glass. However, the application instructions seem to be quite restrictive, for this time of year, by quoting min temperatures etc. http://gtechniq.com/products/auto/perfect/exterior/paint/g1-clearvision-smart-glass.

Can you recommend a couple of sealants that you use?

Hi BigM.

Gtechniq can and often is really awkward to apply in the British climate, but I have used Angelwax H2Go successfully for quite a few years now, whilst its longevity is not the same as Gtechniqs glass sealant, it's not as expensive and you get more for your money, so it's a win win situation.

Hi

If your after winter protection then most of it should be underneath, they corrode a lot more where you can't see it.

I can recommend Krown rust protection, they do the whole car, they remove all the plastic covers and do a proper job and best bit its guaranteed.

There in Birmingham have a look at there site, well recommended http://www.krown.co.uk/

It's far superior to like say waxoyl, it's like a thin gel, does not harden or peel

Cheers

Joe

Hi Joe,

As my s type does not fit into the garage and sits on the driveway when dot on the road I am quite interested in a good rust protection.  Can you tell me the cost for an s type that is 10 years old.

Regards,

Peter.

That's a good lead, Joe.    Our XK doesn't go out if it's raining, or looks like rain, and definitely not when there's salt about.    Our S, however, is out and about most days and, although we don't have any add-on sills etc., the treatment you have mentioned may well be a good investment.    Years ago, tried Waxoyl which, as you say, eventually goes off and peels.  And as for KuRust...!!!!

Nice one.

As always, happy growling

Hi

The prices is on the web site

They do a very good job, they remove all the under body covers, wheel arch liners and rear lights on the s-type

they also do inside all four doors and sills

its stops rust and lubricates bushes and electrics, when you there they spray in side the fuse boxes and as a demo on there car they tip a load of water over the fuse box showing its made it water proof

they have a site on facebook as well https://www.facebook.com/krownuk/

A friend of mine, near me had his S-type done recently, after having his sill replaced, they did the whole car,

they also clean the car after as well,

Its well worth the investment, if your thinks of keeping your car, If i had a new car, it would be the first thing I would have done

cheers

Joe

Thanks, Joe,

When you have a car running very well, and you are 83 you are not inclined to change it.

I have had a look at the site and It could be well worth a visit to Tipton with about £250 in my back pocket

Regards,

Peter.
