Private Plates

As the CDC is in the difficult drawer for now at least my thoughts are turning to an old dream of mine.  A private Plate.   Always fancied one and I'm now in a position to treat myself.  Would love something along the lines of 57 YPE or V6 JAG but these are not available.  Well not with my budget.  What does one do with the MOT Certificate and Registration Document?  Insurance is clear enough and straight forward.

Hi

I did mine a while ago

and it can all be done online within a few days

I bought mine off dvla, you get the certificate through in a few days and they include the transfer

then you go online and swap it over, it automatically does the v5 log book, which comes through a few days later, your mot is done and tax, pop your plates on and job done

got my plates online and they arrived together, all done within 3 days

save your old plates, because if you transfer your plate, the old  number plate usually goes back

cheers

Joe

Seen a bit of the sheriffs are coming on bbc1 last night where they went to a company called extreme jaguar chasing a debt and when the camera was panning round it stopped on a plate on the wall.

J499UAR.

Pretty penny for that!!

I saw that episode as well: It showed a very nice Mk2, amongst others.

I did think that J499UAR was probably just a made up number, which looked great but would only cost them a tenner to do!

Thanks Joe, that was easier than making my breakfast this morning.  Will print the document off and get them made up today.  There's no indication on the form you can do this.

Thank you.

Just to clarify what can be? And can't be done online using the DVLA personalised registrations electronic transfer from a retention V778 document to vehicle.

You need to have the V778 retention document with your name typed by the DVLA under the left hand side shown under Grantee. This name must match EXACTLY THE NAME ON THE VEHICLES V5 THAT IT'S BEING TRANSFERRED TO. This is then a free of charge transfer. A new V5 will be issued and if required? The MOT details will be up-dated at the time the vehicle is next retested. This is a free service.

Problems arise purchasing a personalised number privately or from some dealers if there details (name) is still shown on the V778 Retention document as the Grantee and your as the purchaser is wrote in pen under the right hand side shown under Nominee. Then the DVLA online electronic transfer service can't be used!.

The Nominee (you) will need to send the V788 document signed by BOTH the Grantee and yourself with the vehicles V5 back to the DVLA with a transfer fee of £70.

So if buying a personalised registration ASK 1st whether your buying it with your details added by the DVLA as the Grantee or just as the Nominee? If just as the Nominee then you need to factor in the transfer cost in to buying the registration number.

Here we go.

Couldn't resist it.:yahoo:

Jaguar drivers are a courteous lot showing regard and though for other road users so the number plate need to reflect this.:innocent: My wife drives a BMW  and her number plate reflects BMW drivers regards to other road users :ranting:

But what does it mean???

Ohm - resistance.  I'm supposed to be an Electrical Engineer of sorts, am thinking what my colleagues will say when I go to work in it, did consider AMP as well.  I also considered V77 MEB as this was the year I started work, 1977, for the pre-privatised electricity Board, Midlands Electricity Board, but went for this instead.  I may still get the MEB one for the Landy.

Have always wanted a private number plate but could never see one that was appropriate.  Many years ago when driving aroung Wolverhampton in my MEB van I followed a Mk3 Escort - PEP 51Y - guess if still available would be worth a small fortune today.  Thing is with PNPs they are rarely obvious what they mean.  But I've fulfilled two promises I made to myself over the last 6 months or so; getting a Jag and a private plate.  Next one is to retire in around 2 years, that's the big one.
