Welcome to the club, Lee.

Great looking car, and a great drive -- comfort and speed.

There was some discussion about a year ago on the "200 and I am sure you will get some assistance.

Regards,

Peter.

Welcome and enjoy, looks a nice motor in that colour particularly.

An alloy wheel cleaning brush from B&M Stores should come in useful for those narrow-slatted alloys......unlike a lot of wheel brushes, it doesn't have a cut-off wire core with a sharpish end which could scratch the alloy. It has a smooth curved wire insert so no problem, and is narrow enough to get into the narrow end of the slots on our 18" alloys ('07 2.7TD).

Happy growling

Hi Carole,

I too use the B&M brush, and also the small sponges that you can get about 24 for £1.  When I had my wheels completely refurbished, I was also advised not to use chemical s to clean the wheels, but just plain luke-warm water.

Peter.

Hi Old Peter

Totally agree ref wheel cleaning.  We only use luke-warm water on both our XK and S, a wipe over with a specific Autoglym towel to dry, and they are fine. We did put a light application of Autoglym Resin polish on which acts as a good protector.

What a sparkly bunch we are!  Happy growling

Hi Carole,

Drying off the car is a big part of cleaning a car.

When dry I just buff it up with a fairly expensive microfibre cloth.  I gave my S Type  a good wax polish in February  using a  Belt Hamber Carnuba Polymer wax, which apparent is good at protecting from the rain.  It does, as the rain just runs off.  It is supposed to last 3 months but it will get another coat at the end of May.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Peter

What a sparkly lot we are!

Quite agree with regard to the Carnauba and the drying cloths.

When we purchased our XK X150 last year she had only covered 6600 miles, but was still 9 years old.  We had avoided the Superguard which the Jaguar dealer was desperate to sell us (we had taken a look at the valeters applying the process to other cars and weren't impressed, feeling that any film would be sealed in).  We used Mequairs clay pad and liquid cleaner which brought a film off, followed by Mequairs Gold Class carnauba...what a difference, and, as you say, water just runs off, having formed plenty of little beads on the paintwork.  We have just done our second application, and the finish is like a mirror.

We dry off with an Autoglym towel and high quality micro-fibre cloths. Any residue of H2O which may not be visible is dealt with when she goes back in the Carcoon. With the vent open for a while, the drying process is well and truly complete.  Our '07 S-type gets the same treatment.  How sparkly are we!

Do you use tyre gel? We use Mequairs again, as it doesn't flick and wipes  off an alloy very easily, should we be a little clumsy with our sponge applicator.

Happy sparkly growling

Hi Carole,

I had Supaguard on my S type but was not impresses, and it became ineffective after about two and a half years after which I used a detailing spray that I won at a meet for the best presented car.  It was a sunny day and the metallic paint [Indigo] showed up very well.

For our 50th Wedding anniversary a month ago I bought my wife a nice smaller car, as she didn't like parking the S Type in the busy area in which we live.  Our daughter in law has a Toyota Yaris Hybrid and my wife was quite enamoured with it, so I bought one with just 10,000 miles on the clock  It was in very good condition, so I had it ceramic coated, which was a very good move as the result was really good, and which saved me a great deal of work. I would have like to have acquired an XE, but being well retired the funds did not run to one!

In regards to the tyres I have rarely used the spray that is supposed to clean them, and have used a small plastic brush and water.  I will try the Megulars Gel as I feel that it would be more suitable.

You will enjoy the Heritage Museum at Gaydon --  I organised a meet there last year.

Regards,

Peter.

The S Type below which has been used for racing is a 2.7 Diesel!
