Service Intervals

Hi

Can someone advise, I have a 2009 Jaguar X Type 2.2 Diesel I have full Jaguar service history and recently had a A service carried out. Turning on the engine today the driver information system says service due in 2000 mile, travelling a further two mile advised me that service is needed in 1950 mile. I do very little mileage and recently had DPF problems. Can the small mileage be the issue I thought intervals was 12500 or 12 months.

Many thanks

Hi Keith.

After a Service that information should be Deleted, you say you have had a problem with the  DPFilter so it maybe connected to the DPFilter needing a forced Regeneration.

On my x Type I've had that message come on Service Required in 1200/1500 miles only once when it was actually due a Service in the mileage shown. But i think it was something to do with the DPFilter as this message has never come on again when a Service is due in over 4 years off owning the x type.

I take it you have a 6 Speed Auto if you have a DPFILTER, as the Manuel 6 Speed Gearbox the DPFilter was an optional extra.

You say it has a full Jaguar service history, i would ask them what engine Oil they have used as with a DPFilter you need a Low Ash Oil (WSS-M2C C1 934 B) this Oil number is not mentioned in the Handbook and if they are using the oil Numbers in the Handbook this could be one off the causes that you are having with the DPFilter because you need a Low Ash oil, it has been known that dealer's have not used the proper oil for a Car with a DPFilter.

And use only Genuine Jaguar oil and fuel filters, and only fill the engine with 5:5 litres of Oil.

Diesel car's are mean't to be Driven as members say give it a Italian tune now and again don't keep the Revs below 2,000 all the time ,it is recommended that if you do lot of short journeys to take the car out for a longish journey every 3/4weeks and keep the Revs above 2,500. And if a Re-Gen is happening they say you shouldn't switch off the Engine and go for a 20 minute drive ( I have only ever noticed a Re-Gen when i stopped in a car park and with the engine ticking over it sounded that there was a Hole in my exhaust) touch wood I have never had any problems with the DPFilter.

Regards Tom.

Hi Keith.

I think you should get the service message deleted and then go from there and then see if the message comes back on, you don't say if your Jag is an Auto I take it it is but the reason for only putting in 5:5litres of Oil in the Engine is that if a Re-Gen is interrupted(ie engine switched off during a Re-Gen) diesel can enter the Sump which is not good( that's why your service message could be a warning that there is diesel in the Sump I'm just surmising that this would happen on our x type's but members say that this warning does happen on s type's). The main thing is that you know how much Oil is in the Engine and check the Oil Level quite regularly ( i don't know if you have found out that the oil dipstick is very difficult to get a proper reading, the way most members check the oil Level is to start the engine and get the oil circulated then switch off the Engine and leave for about 10 minutes then check the Oil dipstick about 3 or 4 times to get a proper reading.)

You don't say how many miles your Jag has covered but another thing I would like to mention is that the jubilee clips on the hoses from the turbo/egr to the intercooler do rust and a hose can get blowen off, the best thing is to replace with stainless steel jubilee clips.

I hope i haven't made you think what have i bought all new diesels have DPFilters now a days and some are a lot more problematic that the x type the secret is to know your Car and regularly check all fluids.

The x type is a great car and it has a timing chain and not a timing belt so that's one thing less to worry about.lol.

Enjoy your x type Keith they're great car's I'm on my third x type now.

Regards Tom.

Hi Keith,

It is worth using the Shell Optimax diesel or similar, because this keeps the engine much cleaner. On my wife's diesel Citroen C4 Grand Picasso she used to hear it regenerating quite regularly. Since she switched to the Optimax a few months ago we have never heard it regenerate.

I only use Shell V Power and have never had a DPF problem even though I only do about 6000 miles a year.  I also get a fiver every few months from the Shell Drivers Club, as well as a better fuel consumption.

Peter.
