Roof rack/bar access point

I've just spotted that one of the four protective covers for a roof bar/rack is depressed. The reason it is depressed is that the plastic clip it is designed to clip against is missing. So I need to get a replacement plastic socket for it to connect with. Any ideas? I'll try and upload some pictures shortly.

I need the connector that this part works against. The depressed part is

Hi there I think I might be able to help you out as I'm breaking two X-TYPE Jags at the moment I know the covers are missing but the bit inside is still there. I can look tomorrow and see if I can get one out

Thanks -  I've temporarily put a bit of sponge in the channel to act as a kind of spring pushing the tiny rectangular cover up so that it rests level with the roof line. The plastic clip in the channel would be far better.

Thanks, Joe but I don't want the Roof Rail Finisher Cap. I want the plastic bit which goes inside the channel which the top of the Roof Rail Finisher Cap (the part with the lip at right angles) clicks against. The bottom of the Roof Rail Finisher Cap has a tongue which fits into a different plastic bit in the channel. This is present in my Jag. It is the plastic bit in the channel for the other end of the Roof Rail Finisher Cap which is missing on my Jag. Maybe it was dislodged in a car wash.

regards

Alistair

Dave - many thanks for the plastic part and thanks for sending me four of them. They arrived today, I trimmed one of them down so it could fit into the channel without dismantling the car (!) and it now looks perfect again.

Kind Regards

  • 9 months later...

Hi,I realise this is almost one year old now. However,I went investigating what these mounting points look like- put a fine screwdriver into the slot in the finisher which appears to beg for it (needless to say there is NOTHING in the handbook) and the finisher promptly dropped downward and ended up as described in the firsr post by the OP. So now, I have a finisher cap, but it just drops down inside the rail if I try to replace it.There is nothing below it, between the rail line and the top of the bolt hole (which is still full of original silicone gunk). What do I need, what does it look like please? Any help gratefully received.......

Thanks for taking the time to post - but I have the finisher caps.It is those that now hang low into the access point since I removed them by gently prising out with a thin screwdriver from the front end recess, opposite the mounting lug.I had assumed from your earlier posting that there were spacers or similar below,to keep them up in the hole to sit flush with the rail; if not, then I can't figure out what kept them flush originally, as nothing has broken off, yet they just hang low at the front of the access hole. Frankly, for a "premium" car, these bits of tiny plastic are garbage--even  in pre-history,on my early 90s Astras/Corsas, there was a sprung metal slide which slid back in the rail to reveal the mounting points, then sprung back up afterwards....................

It is some time ago but I think that to lift the finisher cap back in place I took a bit of scrap bendy plastic, curved it so that it would act as a spring and inserted the finisher cap with this below it so that the homemade bendy plastic spring pushed the finisher cap back into place so that its front and read rested against the rail (labelled 1 in the diagram).
