Hi

I have lost the audio warnings for: indicator active, headlights on, seat-belt undone, door open etc.  I've trawled through the workshop manual and although I can find the list of audible warnings I can find no details of the hardware responsible.  I have found the circuit diagram for the electrics but that is of little help.

I don't think the control unit is at fault as there is no other indication of any fault.  The symptoms (initial distortion of sound warning then recovery before they were lost altogether)  seem to suggest the speaker responsible for these  warnings has been damaged or just given up the ghost.  Can anyone tell me where this speaker is located so I can check it out before taking the car to the garage?

Thank you Cubist for your response.  Looking a the wiring diagram it certainly seems like the speaker is integral to the instrumentation.  So not much hope of an easy/cheap fix.  But I'll keep looking.

Thank you fir your responses.  I realise I'm stepping into dangerous territory fiddling with instruments and instrument clusters and I do it with great reluctance.  I haven't really fiddled with cars at all for the last thirty years - not since my old MGB Roadster.  As I understand it I've got a few options.  In order of expense:

1) Do nothing and put up with the inconvenience.  I'll have to do this for a few weeks anyway.
2) Take out the binnacle instrument cluster and see if, by some miracle, I can replace the integral speaker.
3) By a used replacement and try to fit - with all that that implies with re-configuring which I would have to get done by Jaguar anyway.
4) Having instrument cluster rebuilt by specialists.  They could probably keep the configuration and current mileage etc.
5) Have the cluster replaced with a new one.  Really is a non-starter at a cost of about £800 for the parts alone.

Looks like number 1 or 2 for the moment.

Hi Noel,

It may be an idea to start a new topic in which you ask if anyone has repaired an instrument cluster in the past and can provide any advice. Also, to ask if there is anyone out there with a redundant instrument cluster they can donate or sell at a reasonable cost that you can use to investigate the possibility of replacing the speaker.

A long shot I know but you never know.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks Cubist and Raistlin for your advice which I intend to follow.  Paul, you mention Denis having an instrument panel,  do tou think  he might be prepared to sell me the panel?  You'll forgive me my ignorance but who is Denis and how do I contact hi?

I’ve sent Denis’s contact details via private message Noel

Denis breaks Jaguars as a hobby and is a very good friend of mine. We tend to work together if club members need parts fitting, retro-fitting or diagnosis which we do free of charge.
