X Type - key fob security failure

Recommended Posts

Hi, just bought a new key for my 2004 xtype. Put the original circuit board and key into the new fob. Door opens but when I turn key it says security fail. Did the programming thing, still the same and car won’t start. What am I doing wrong? Tried new key with new circuit board but entry by that key sets alarm off and won’t let me get as far as the programming thing ...

Hi Debra, and welcome to the club.

Sadly I am not electrically savvy, but there are other members who are.

I would be resigned to call for the services of an auto electrician.

We lived in Derbyshire for 12 enjoyable years. We still go up there frequently to enjoy the scenery.

Regards,

Peter.

WHEN YOU SAY NEW KEY ? DOES THIS MEAN THE METAL PART !  IF SO YOU HAVE TO PLACE THE KEY IN THE IGNITION BARREL AND LET IT LINK UP TO THE NEW KEY PLUS THE CIRUIT BOARD, THEN DO THE PROGRAMMING WHERE IT DOES THE CHIMES. BUT DO IT IN A ORDER, I THINK THERE IS A LINK WHERE SOMEONE HAS EXPLAINED THIS IN ONE OF THE POST.  AS FOR THE NEW CICUIT BOARD I WOULD SEE IF IT LOOKS THE SAME REGARDING TO ITS OUT LAY, AS SOME CICUIT BOARDS DIFFER.   FOR ME I JUST HAD TO CHANGE THE TACTILE BUTTONS ON THE CICUIT BOARD X4 AND MINE NOW WORKS GREAT, THATS ON A 2004 X TYPE, BEST OF LUCK ...HOPE YOU GET SORTED, DAVE.

hi

sound like you forgot to swap the transponder chip as well

inside you old key, they a black chip, its a transponder, it comunicates with a pickup coil around the ignition key barrel and lets the car start

if you hold your old key near the ignition barrel, quite close, youl find it will start

cheers

Joe

pic below chip will be in the slot where the red arrow is
