Intro and question

Good Morning All.

Eventually I have managed to sit my old bum in a Jaguar. Its been on my want list for years. I found an 04 plate XType 2ltr Diesel. The choice was amazing but the RFL on the big petrols was too high for my 2k or so miles per year.

Its everything I imagined a Jaguar would be,it wont be my last one. There are a couple of minor body scrapes but hardly noticeable, it's hard to imagine how old it is.

It has on two occasions confused me though. On returning from a few minutes in the shops everything appears okay, dash lights come on but nothing else not even a click. First time a friendly gang of lads gave me a push start and it was fine for a month or so then same this week. Is it something other's have experienced ?

Kind Regards

Pete

Welcome to the club, Peter.

Doing a small mileage I would guess that your battery needs a charge.  Jaguars have so many electrical bits on them that a battery only lasts about 5 or 6 years and I think that it should get a charge every couple of weeks.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Pete,

Certainly battery. My S -Type is on its third battery (replaced Dec 17) and is an 03 registration. Battery longevity also depends on use - eg: short runs add small charges to the battery and increase wear - shortening the life. Some (S-Type) Jag battery's have been recommended to be upgraded so, if you journey's are going to be short - get the best upgrade you can.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes

Dominic

hi

Diesels nowadays are not really suitable for short journeys and low miles

its lucky you don't have a DPF, or you would have nothing but issues with it all the time

for your battery I recomend getting a CTEK smart charger, can be left on all the time and will keep the battery tip top

I have one on my Jaguar and one on my mitsubishi, my mitsubishi does less than a 1000 miles a year and the battery on that is over 10 years old

CTEK also made the genuine Jaguar car chargers that came as a optional extra, which I have on mine

cheers

Joe

Hi Dominic,

I am on my third battery too, replaced in February 2017.

I have a exterior plug  outside the garage [which houses SWMBO.s Yaris Hybrid] where I plus in the CTEK charger when I have had no longs runs in a week or so.

Regards,

Peter.

Morning Everyone,

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my question, Ill certainly get the battery checked out seeing as it seems to be everyone's answer. I have to be honest I was leaning more towards the key fob battery as the problem is intermittent, sort of allowing me to unlock but not turn off the engine immobiliser.Getting to understand a new vehicle is always a slow process, only after living with it over a period all its little quirks come to life.

Enjoy your Sunday Ill look forward to visiting and taking part on the site.

Pete
