Constant low battery warning on my 2016 F type R

I just bought a 2016 F-Type R. The battery constantly gives a low battery warning every other day. It’s been to Jaguar 3 times in two weeks and they can’t find out why. Anyone had a similar experience?

Welcome to the club, Doug.

If the garage can't find the problem it must be a simple one!

Is the battery low on power when the message says so?  Have you done a lot of stop and start runs or is there something in the car switched on overnight?  The latter has been known.

Regards,

Peter.

Thanks, for the welcome. The battery is low when the warning goes on. Usually drops from around 13 volts to under 12 when warning occurs. If another day goes by car won’t turn over. Jag, says battery is good and draw is normal. Taking it in for them to keep for a few days to see if they can find something but thought I’d see if anyone else experienced similar.

The CTEK will stop the battery being so discharged, but not stop the cause: There is no way it should be in this state every other day, even with short stop-start runs.

There must be something going on, and I am wondering if something is causing a short circuit on a regular (but not constant) basis. If it were constant I assume that the garage would have found it.

hi

try disconnecting the battery, for a few days, if its starts, then you know battery is ok and its something on the car

check the obvious first , interior light, boot light and engine bay light if it has one

I had a drain on my car when I first had it and it ended up been a tracker, the internal battery had failed and was draining the main battery

cheers

Joe

I had the same problem and I is cause by the car not going to sleep. It is like to car is searching for the key all the time and just eats up the battery. The key as to be kept more than twenty five feet away from the car but even that does not always work. Only two ways to cure the problem is to disconnect the battery when the car is not in continual use or keep a battery tender on it that has an output of more than 4a.

I’ve had the same issue with the battery light coming on when I enter the car and have gone through 2 batteries in 3 years. Jaguar did a full analysis and found nothing except a depleted battery. I often do short runs so not really doing a strong recharge.  That could be the issue.  I also got the C-Tek battery charger/conditioned and leave it plugged in most of the time. So far, so good!

Greetings from Los Angeles!   Do we know if Jag has addressed this issue with the "voltage control diode?"   I've got a 2019 F and in the 38 months of ownership I've only put 9,400 miles on her.   Jag claims this is the issue with my car... that I don't drive it enough.   Still, I don't think the battery should die if I don't use the car every few days.   Yesterday, I invested in a trickle charger, so we will see if that helps my issue.   Thoughts?

Welcome to the club, Ronnie

I am not a technical person, but I do know a few hings about batteries.

My 15 year old S Type is mostly sitting on my driveway with the Covid situation having few occasions to use the car, and so I need to charge the battery every 5 days if I have not used it.

I use a Ctek battery charger [cost around £65 - $80 - ] and I have an electrical connection on the wall close to the garage.

The trickle charger in the sun of California will be very useful.

Regards,

Peter

Hi,

Looking on other forums, this is a common issue and generally is rectified by (re booting the system) disconnect the battery terminals and leave off for 10 minutes then re connect, that should sort it apparently.......
