engine Cutting out

My 2000 year S type 3 litre has just 48k on the clock absolutely immaculate and a joy to drive until recently

Car would cut out out when driving but restart immediately ,drive for a bit then do it again

It had  a kind of jerky acceleration as well I would floor it and it would think about things then kickdown

Have had a new fuel filter a faulty coil pack changed and also replaced the cats in case they were damaged

Eng man light flickered now and again as well Fault code reader pointed to the Throttle position sensor which as you know is not a part you can buy new anymore but I got a throttle body

and sensor from a breaker.Car started no problem went for a drive and then it just cut out again and wouldnt re start this time.

Other forums point to possible breather pipe problems or air leaks from somewhere.

I really want to keep this car on the road as I love it

Any help appreciated also do you think there would be any use it getting a Jaguar main dealer to see it

Cheers

Are you sure the coil packs and plugs under the inlet manifold were done? Not sure these breaking down would lead to the cutting out, but when I got mine, it had the jerky acceleration you mention until I got in there and swapped these out. Many leave this bank of cylinders as it's a faff to get to 😉

The fault code only showed one coil pack was wrong

the vacuum pipes have been checked and a leak sorted

found out that if the battery is not 100% it can throw all the warning lights up and mess with the ecu

going to change the battery to see if that helps it’s a few years old anyway

cheers

Check the battery first - if it's holding 12.6v, and the alternator output is around 14.5v with a load it's unlikely to be battery related.

Having once owned a BMW 5 series that developed similar problems suddenly, which turned out to be 2 faulty coil packs, I'd be inclined to continue looking at something along those lines. Also check the MAF sensor, as my last car coughed and hesitated under acceleration when the MAF sensor failed.
