Jaguar Xe fault code P25A9-00. Piston oil jets cooling solenoid

Hi All

i am after some advise I have the above code come up on my car and even though I have took 5 independent garages and no ones seems to have a clue what is causing the issue. After googling the web I replaced the cam shaft sensor as it was an easy fix to try and do myself, but didn’t resolve the issue.
After all this decided to take to to Jaguar itself and they advised it was 100% the camshaft sensor until I mentioned I have replaced this and then they mentioned it must be the wiring which they also checked and was ok. Now they seem to think it is due to the timing belt being stressed. I am not sure this is the fault but an expensive check if it isn’t.
has anyone had the fault Before or have any idea what is causing this as the engine management light is on. The only difference I have noticed is that when you press the start stop button is takes about 6 revolutions to turn over.

Many thanks for any advise?
Ian

Hi Kev

All sorted finally, but not a cheap fix and ended up to be the timing chain, which had stretched due to low Oil at some point. Jaguars does not come with an Oil light indicator so need to monitor this regularly. If you find you are losing Oil it is probably your oil plug on the timing cover, which the seal is broken. The plugs are cheap and need to get looked at when replacing the chain. Sorry I have no good news, but I found out the hard way and spent £1000s to get to the actual problem.

hope this helped.

Hello Ian

What engine do you have as i believe some engine's have to be removed from the Car to get to the timing chain, and i believe some bmw model's also have to have the engine removed to get to the timing chain.

Good to hear that you have your problem solved.

Regards Tom.

Hi Tom I have the 2.0 diesel and yes engine had to come out as they needed to check both chains, top and bottom. Only the top one needed replacing but you might as well do both.

Exactly, don’t make sense. Anyway hope you get it sorted soon.

I don't have a problem yet but with you bringing it to our attention, i'll keep checking the Oil level and intend to Change the engine Oil and filter every year instead off 2year's.

Regards Tom.

Hi Matt.

to resolve the issue it cost £1600 but to the overall cost was 3k as no one knew what the problem was so had to do a lot other jobs first to find out the narrow down the cause.

Hi, I’m having same problems and up to date I have spent about £1000 and issue still persists, maybe I should now zero my mind to another £1600 for the timing chain, thanks

Did everyone who has experienced this get it sorted?
My XE has this fault. (Piston cooling jet circuit open) and I’m wondering if it can be fixed without taking the engine out in any way.

Jaguar XE / Discovery Sport 2.0 Diesel

Fault code P25A9-00. Piston Oil jets cooling solenoid

2015 Jaguar XE 2.0 Diesel

In my case Fault code P25A9-00 it was related to the Piston Oil jets cooling solenoid.

I'm not a professional, the complete job takes me 4 hrs.

Taking pictures of every step is very helpful when you put them back. Give attention to the wiring connectors that do not damage them

1st I removed the air filter completely to make space

2nd I removed the coolant vessel

3rd I remove the hose from the thermostat to make space to unscrew the 4 bolts  and remove it

4th below you will see the cooling solenoid unscrew the bolt and with the screwdriver pull out the solenoid .

At the end when all parts are back in place you have to refill the coolant and keep the eye on it because it needs to be topped up two / three times because the air will be released from the cooling system and the coolant level will drop.

The coolant has to be the same colour as the one you have already in the cooling system (in my case it was red).

Hi,

I am having the same issue with my XF 2016 2.0d. Thank you for the video, I have not yet tried fixing it. What is the part number for it?

also my engine is shaking on idle, it might be because of that?

thank you!

Have you read this thread from the beginning, as it could be the Timing Chains that also need too be checked as member Ian72 found out.

I did, but i thought I should try replacing the actual part first, maybe it’s more cost effective

It's just that a code can be a few different problems, yes it's best to tackle the easiest and probably the cheapest , first.

All the Best

Hi everyone,

Have same issue already within 2 month "Fault code P25A9-00. Piston Oil jets cooling solenoid"

Jaguar XE 2.0 Diesel 2016

Before engine was shacking with idle speed - problem was found and fixed with engine cushion and exhaust gas soot filter (DPF) along with the damper. To fix the P25A9-00 have to find the above solenoid which is not available on stock. Have no idea why. May be someone give me advice where I have to find it? Thanks, appreciate any offer.
