Ad Blue Incorrect quality message

I have a 2016 Jagaur XF 2.0 litre diesal which keeps coming up with Ad Blue incorrect quality and a mileage countdown until the engine will not restart.

This happened in Cornwall whilst on a trip, I live in West Sussex. So I took the car into a Jaguar dealer in Redruth and they told me there was a problem with the quality of the ad blue. They drained the tank and put new ad blue in it.

After a week the same message came up and this time i was in West Sussex, so I took the car to a Jaguar dealer in Chichester. They told me the quality of the Ad Blue was ok but the injector for the ad blue was blocked. This was cleared at which time I asked why this should be the case and they said may be doing too many short runs. Told them I drive down to Cornwall regularly.

Another trip down to Cornwall and on my way back the same fault has come back and the milage until the engine will not restart has now changed to some time soon and the dealer will not be able to see the car until a week Tuesday!

Is this a know problem with this engine and has anyone any advice as to what they did to rectify this problem?

Also a good dealer who knows how to put this type of problem right in the South of England?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hi Keith,

My XF, somewhat older than yours, doesn’t use AdBlue, so I can’t help with your specific problem.

But I also live in West Sussex, and would suggest a call to Arun Ltd., in Pulborough. They are and independent Jaguar specialist who also work with Aston Martin and Maserati cars. Mine is going there for a service next Friday.

I’m sure it would be worth you having a chat with theirs service manager, Andrew, to see what he can suggest.

Good luck!

Jon

Hi I’ve read that adblue crystallises when it’s ages a bit, so only add about 5 litres at a time and then you won’t have the adblue stood for a long time, look it up it was on a forum somewhere

I've also heard that when topping up with AdBlue it can get an Airlock in the system and it's advised to leave the Filler Cap off or loose for a while, probably overnight.

And if it's overfilled it can also cause a problem, average use is about 1 litre of AdBlue to about 500 miles, and the Container holds 17 litres.

In a year of owning my XF i've never had a problem with the Ad Blue and haven't topped up yet, but when i bought the car from a  Ford Garage, they had actually bought 16 litres of AdBlue from the Jaguar dealer and filled the 17 litre Container and when they did this it brought up an orange triangle warning.

So they arranged for me to take it to the Jaguar Dealer that sold and serviced the XF, and they had to drain the system and refill with New Ad Blue to Clear the warning message which cost £ 160 pounds and the Ford Garage payed for it to be done.

Regards Tom.

I suspect the urea content of Adblue would tend to crystallise out if it was  not stirred up for a while, personally I have never had a problem with it, I wait till the low warning appears then add 5l which lasts quite a while. £6.00 for 5l from Asda.

Took mine in as it had the adblue quality message, so far:

Diagnostics - £99 + vat

NOX sensor issue need to pinpoint which one - £375 + vat

Nothing actually done yet and it can only get worse

I had this earlier in the year, twice in 6 weeks. Took it to main dealer in Chichester who informed me I needed a new NOx sensor and SCR Catalyst and Jaguar Warranty had rejected the claim as the exhaust was not covered. Paid over £1800 and then I phoned the warranty company to ask why the claim was rejected and they told me it should have been covered but the dealer had not included the NOx sensor in their submission and if that had caused the SCR cat to fail.

Couldn't take it further as the dealer had binned the original parts and refused to refund me any money as "we wont get back from the warranty company what we charged you" (quote from Service Manager)

Warranty company eventually refunded me £639 direct to me
