Picking up my new ride XF 3.0 s premium

Heading from Scotland to Wakefield at end of this month to collect my new ride 2010 XF S PREMIUM LUXURY 3.0 in caviar and ivory

I have owned an x type 2.0 Se 2004  estate for the past 14 yrs now and it’s only now giving up the ghost

being the only car since both my daughters were born it has a lot of memories attached to it and still really don’t wanna get rid

this car has moved houses etc and not a single real murmur from it

but I’m definitely looking forward to this car as the girls are grown up and daddy wants a wee bit of his life back 🤪🤪

Not looking forward to a 4 hr train journey but am for the solo drive home for 4 hrs to get to know the car

hopefully it will blow my sentimental thoughts for the old one out the window 🤪🤪

The whole buying experience at least for me has changed dramatically since last time 😂 14 yrs ago !!

now dealers don’t wanna haggle and as a Scot I like to get a bargain 😃 you can’t physically get to see the cars due to covid etc restrictions

Am I the only old guy (52) to miss the deal chase and get the cash off ??

anyway very excited and can’t stop watching the video sent for the car ... sweet dreams are made of this 🤟🤟

I'm surprised you couldn't get a discount of some sort as I presume you are a cash buyer and not part exchanging.   Iv'e always pretended to walk away unless they sweetened the deal !  I'm afraid I'm old school and would not buy a car unseen as you are doing.  If there are any problems during the warranty period, it's a hell of a long way to take it back to the dealer !!

Hi Steven,

I know exactly what you’re talking about!
I hadn’t owed a car  between 1983 and 2018 - loads of (some very nice) company cars, driving roughly 40K  miles a year, but I always wanted an XF (above my pay grade!!!), it had to be a red (claret) one and a good spec.

So when I retired, I found a 2011 XF-S Portfolio, in claret, listed at £16K, biggish mileage, but looking perfect (although the wheels needed, and still need, a refurb).

Actually bought it for £13K (nothing to trade in) and have enjoyed every single second with it - I had high expectations after all those years, but they were well and truly exceeded.

I can’t pretend it had all been plain sailing, there have been costs along the way, but the bank isn’t broken yet. It now needs a new rear coelom and there’ a leak somewhere in the aircon which hasn’t had a noticeable effect. Also needs a second set of rear wishbone bushes. Worst hit was a crack cam cover at about £13K

Joy is still undiminished though!
Enjoy your XF!!!

Hi taurian

as I said . it’s been a long time since I last bought a car but always was before that looking to get a good deal and mostly did but apparently the search engines are what drives the prices , give or take a couple of quid ..

as you see the search engine tells whether it’s a good price already or not

Also I have indeed travelled but again it is a reputable dealer guy salmon and they have sent me videos and pictures etc but yes I do miss the interaction with the car at first sight as I think it is either for you or not in appx 5 mins of seeing it

I am carrying out a pre purchase inspection regardless appx £150  so that should give me some piece of mind

Any advice on getting more than 250 off the window price would be good though

cheers

steven

Think I’m just getting old and cynical not to mention jittery 😀😀

as everyone else does when buying a car

but I am looking forward to driving home in it and getting to know it better

i'm not here to burst your bubble Steven but I strongly believe that the seller wants to sell more than you want to buy.  Like you, I always want the best deal I can get and the dealer will not let you walk away for the sake of a few quid.  If they won't  back down over a small discount ( although i firmly believe they would  rather than lose the sale) insist on something like a full tank of diesel/petrol etc.    I know it's a bit late now as you have agreed the price, but if you are in the market for a new vehicle in the future - go in hard with a silly discount and they will probably give you the discount that you wanted all along!

Anyway, enjoy your new Jag when you get it.

Thanks taurian

Price is agreed in principle that a couple of items are sorted satisfactory

so I have a window price of £8950 with so far a discount of 250 off that with full tank waiting as heading for Scotland ASAP

12 month MOT

6 Month warranty

full service history

personally think any car should come with the above as per anyway

Will defo be pushing when I get down for something else off

cheers

Quote 'I'm surprised you couldn't get a discount of some sort as I presume you are a cash buyer'

Think you will find that when you take finance from a dealer they get a commission from the finance house thereby a cash buyer is not the best news to them.

Currently looking for a specific exterior / interior combination of car and found one that overall virtually met the criteria. In discussions re price the best I could get was £200 off the price (cash and no px).

As new car sales are down it must therefore mean that there are fewer s/h cars coming on to the market. Mind you, having said that some cars seem to be taking a long time to sell.

Enjoy you ride back to Scotland

Hi lads

yep not getting it till end of the month.

trying to not look at pics until closer to the time but ... there may be a chance that I get it delivered for free due to the restrictions coming into force.

will hear tomorrow from both the mechanic from click mechanic and the dealer.

has anyone else ever used click mechanic ?

£112 for the premium pre purchase check which I thought was good value considering I cannot get to physically see the car.

hoping it gives me a bit of peace of mind anyway.

will keep you guys posted

Hi guys

still trying to wipe the stupid grin off my face 😎

obviously can’t really go anywhere but got a chance or 3 to put the foot down a bit kids loved it 😂😂

To be fair to the dealer the car was in top condition when I collected it . haven’t had much chance to look it over properly but on first glance it’s sexy as feck

looking forward to the weekend though
