Updating the SatNav

Hi Everyone,

Here is an update from Jaguar, they don't deal with the sat nav updates, as previously quoted Here.com do it so I tried to contact them through their website which doesn't allow you to put any detail in, they replied with a link to their navigation website and a link to their contact form which doesn't work, it takes you to a page of telephone numbers for difeerent regions. I am now giving up on a suitable solution or any helpful information from Jaguar or Here and am in the process of familiarising myself with my new Garmin'

All in all, a very disappointing experience.

Stay safe

Paul

Just bought a 62 plate xf and have been trying the sat nav  after years off using google maps. It seems ok but have been through a few places where the roads have changed. Was amazed to see comments that very expensive upgrades are 2 years out off date! Instead off upgrading  I am going to buy a top off the range phone holder with inbuilt charging that's permanently wired in...that way google keeps me informed hour by hour of traffic conditions and instant alternative routes usually well before "sally traffic " gets involved.

Yes I’ve been out and about today and I was very disappointed that a good portion of my trip appeared to be across fields? When I did join a main road the sat nav directed me the opposite way and took me through a major town, on a Saturday. So I may well decide to do something similar rather than risk £30 on an update that may not be acceptable.

I find the Jaguar sat nav very frustrating. Do not know the map date on mine. However, the other day trying to navigate to somewhere the map and directions merely showed literally going round in circles and not directing to where I want to go. The other thing is at times you are navigating to somewhere and it comes up with a 'we now have a better way' accept it and it will add time and miles to the journey. Oh, and it normally does not do it once, it keeps doing it until you tell it to stop.

As to the cost, totally ridiculous. I concur with an earlier comment about Vauxhall update costs, as ridiculous as Jaguars cost. The wifes MB costs £99 to update.

I wonder if Jaguar receives a 'royalty' commission from HERE for each update sold.

Would be nice if someone would produce a hack so that Garmin maps can be used - lifetime (until Garmin decide the life has ended) map updates.

On another forum there are details of how to update the HDD version for free using maps from Volvo which are available on the Volvo website, but it does mean having to extract the HDD and unlocking it.

PaulT,

There is a way to determine the date of the map system. It means going into the “secret” menus.

I can’t remember the process exactly, but I recall the site I was on where I saw the instructions. I will hunt around and come back to you. Assuming no one else has told you

PaulT.

So, press start/stop without using the brake pedal to turn the ignition on.

When the screen shows its home menu, Press the Navigation screen button.
Press destination entry.

Press and hold the colon after the word “entry”, at the top of the screen till the screen changes,

to two columns of buttons.

Press “parts information”  top of left column, the screen will change again.

At the bottom there will be 3 groups of 2 digits.
The middle two are the year of the mapping info.

Ignore the back button. It only goes back to the two column screen,

if you have had a look at the other options.

To get out of this “hidden” menu/info,  you lock the car, wait approx a minute,

unlock car and start the engine system boots up normally.

My XF is a ‘14 yr model, made in ‘13, which I bought in ‘19,

it still had the ‘13 mapping loaded.

Hope that helps.

Thanks everyone, you have saved me so much time as I just won't bother with Jaguar map updates.

Android Auto app connects the phone to the car and google maps appears on the screen. Up to date traffic alerts and diversions for free.

2017 Jaguar XF with full LCD displays BTW. I don't get my directions showing in the drivers screen or heads up, but I can live with that.

Frequent and free map updates doesn't seem like a big ask given the cost of the cars, but what do I know about marketing and ensuring there is a good second hand market to keep the new car buyers happy!

Surprised to hear of issues with Here maps. I first used them as a free app on a Windows phone around 6-7 years ago, and they were by far the best sat nav map I had ever used. I heard that a couple of years later Microsoft sold them to BMW/Mercedes.

The app is now available on Android, called HERE We Go but I've never got around to trying it.

I still have the original mapping on my 2009 XF but I don't do that many miles and not that much has changed in the past decade or so, so I've never bothered updating it. I may have a look for that £20 2019 upgrade disc that Apriliaman2000 mentioned about 18 months ago.

Hi, I am new to the forum. I just bought a 2017 Jaguar XF with the InControl Touch (not pro) system. I understand it can be used with InControl apps on android. There is an app called Genius Maps which costs £55. I don't think this is discussed as an option here. Any reason why? I haven't tried yet as my car will only be delivered on Friday.

I’ve just had a quick browse and the disc is still available. It shows as a 2020 update but probably made in late 2019.

I just bought the same disc on eBay for £28, though it was a one-off sale. Seems to be a lot quicker than the original 2008 disc. Those are still selling for around £10, so if I sell that it brings the cost down to around £20 (after sales fees)
