XF-S Restricted Performance

Hi All,

Yesterday I had the dreaded "Restricted Performance" message. Today it was gone until about 20 miles away from home.

I know it needs to be plugged in and diagnosed, but my local indy dealer is awash with work after lockdown.

Any clues for likely cause? It seems to be temperature related, but that's just a guess.

Cheers
Jon

Sounds like a DPF issue or even turbo variable vanes sticking due to restricted driving and the opportunity to rev it hard to clear out

Nothing a good clear out of the engine wouldn't cure, may need to run some additives through the engine as well

I had RP happening. It started a couple of weeks before a service. Would go into RP on starting in the morning and would normally go after the first stop. Did some searches on the various fora and one suggestion was a partially blocked fuel filter. At the service it was discovered that the fuel filter had last been changed in 2016. New filter on and no RP problems in the last 3 months....have I just tempted fate???

Hi All,

Thanks for the suggestions!

I tried a quick thrash in full attack mode (Dynamic + gearbox in S) and added a bottle of Wynns diesel additive; still got RP after about 10 miles. Stopped, everything was fine again for about 5 miles, then got RP again 😞

Will go for another spin later today, in case the Wynns has had an effect overnight, but expectations are low! Might need to wait to get it diagnosed when I can get it booked-in.

It still gets to 70+mph, just takes an age to get there and exiting roundabouts is embarrassing!

Thanks again,
Jon

Hi Darren,
No cause given so far, but I'm a bit annoyed that the righthand side cover was fixed a few months ago (similar cost), so why not do both at that time? Most of the cost is the labour, which surely wouldn't have been doubled if replacing both, as most of is is stripping down and rebuilding.

Humph!

  • 7 months later...

I've just been quoted just over £1000 for the same job. Is this a common problem? Is there any way of reinforcing the Cam Cover with plastic steel or similar? Obviously, its too late for the one that has cracked, but would it be feasible as a preventative measure?

I've seen this issue reported and discussed in all of the Jaguar forums, with the frequent comment that it is either a design or a manufacturing fault. My question is that, if this has been known about for the past few years, at least 6 as far as I can see, has anything been done to improve the part so as to prevent this from happening in the future?
I noticed here JAGUAR 3.0 TDV6 NEW INLET MANIFOLD ROCKER CAM COVERS LHS & RHS XF XJ F-PACE SET | eBay , for example, that this parts supplier is stating that their parts won't suffer from this problem.
